I understand that John Hurt was an actor in Alien, and that the chestburster is a reference to that.
Are the other actors around John Hurt supposed to be referencing something too? I didn't really understand the Pluto joke, or the "Hello My Baby" jokes.

Classic! Thanks for the reminder. A great triple gag from Mel Brooks. Pluto from the bark refers to Pluto the Disney dog (bark tree/ bark dog pun), which is the setup for John Hurt laughing/choking/chestbuster from Alien as you noted, and finally after the climactic action we get the outta-nowhere 3rd punchline of the alien singing & dancing which is a reference to Michigan J. Frog, an old Bugs Bunny character from the 50s.
And of course there's the 4th punchline: CHECK PLEASE!
So I guess it's a quadruple gag. With Mel Brooks ya gotta be on your toes to catch them all!

And I'd just like to thank Mr. Brooks for that other food-inspired character in the film--yep, that disgusting one. He'd probably chuckle at what I'm writing, but you did not have to go there, sir. Once a guy starts making fun of pizza, he is no longer considered an American!
