There was a time when he seemed to crop up in every film made in Britain. He was always rather hefty and looked somewhat older than he was so his sad death was not, alas, a great shock but he is surely missed. I'm glad that he had his great late life stage triumph with 'The History Boys' and the subsequent film (which wasn't as successful but did give him a plum role).
