Richard Roxburgh (born 23 January 1962) is an Australian actor and filmmaker. He has received several accolades across film, television, and theatre, including AFI and AACTA Awards, Logie Awards, and Helpmann Awards.

He began his career working with the Sydney Theatre Company. He went on to appear in Australian and international productions such as Baz Luhrmann's films Moulin Rouge! (2001) and Elvis(2022), the ABC series Rake (2010–2018), and the action films Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), and Van Helsing (2004).

Richard Roxburgh (* 23. Januar 1962 in Albury, New South Wales, Australien) ist ein australischer Schauspieler. Bis 1986 besuchte er das National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). In den 1990er Jahren war er in mehreren australischen Film- und Theaterproduktionen zu sehen. Wie 1997 neben Cate Blanchett und Ralph Fiennes in Oscar und Lucinda. 2000 war Roxburgh in Mission: Impossible II erstmals in einem internationalen Blockbuster zu sehen. Er spielte Sherlock Holmes in dem Film Der Hund der Baskervilles (2002) und im nächsten Jahr dessen Erzfeind Professor Moriarty in Die Liga der außergewöhnlichen Gentlemen. In Van Helsing war er als Dracula zu sehen. Nach einer Theaterproduktion als Regisseur mit Tim Wintons That Eye, The Sky im Jahr 1994 veröffentlichte Roxburgh im Jahr 2007 seinen ersten Kinofilm als Regisseur: Unter der Sonne Australiens (Romulus, My Father). Zusammen mit Ewan McGregor und Nicole Kidman war Roxburgh auch in dem Musikvideo Come What May zu sehen.

2010 spielte er in Hoffnungslos glücklich – Jeder Tag ist ein Geschenk (Matching Jack) mit. Von 2010 bis 2018 spielte er in der international bekannten australischen Serie Rake einen brillanten Strafrechtsanwalt mit selbstzerstörerischen Tendenzen. 2019 war er neben Noomi Rapace, Yvonne Strahovski und Luke Evans in Angel of Mine zu sehen. 2020 verkörpert er in der Netflix-Produktion The Crown den ehemaligen australischen Premierminister Bob Hawke, den er bereits 2010 in dem australischen Fernsehfilm Hawke darstellte.

Jest najmłodszym z sześciorga dzieci księgowego. Zanim zdecydował się zostać aktorem, rozpoczął studia ekonomiczne w Canberze. W 1986 roku zdobył dyplom prestiżowej australijskiej szkoły teatralnej National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Aktualnie ma mieszkanie w Notting Hill w Londynie. Roxburgh otrzymał liczne nominacje Australijskiego Instytutu Filmowego (AFI) i wygrał w kategorii "najlepszy aktor w roli głównej", jak też otrzymał nagrodę krytyków australijskich za występ w "Doing Time For Patsy Cline". Aktor wystąpił również w wielu rolach teatralnych, jak choćby w "Hamlecie", za którego zebrał pochlebne recenzje oraz otrzyma wiele nagród, m.in. Nagrodę Krytyków Teatralnych Sydney w kategorii "najlepsze przedstawienie aktorskie". Inne sztuki, w których wziął udział to: "The Seagull" i "On Parliament Hill". Roxburgh pojawił się także poza granicami Australii w rolach w "Closer", "The Homecoming", "Burn This" i "Romeo i Julia". Richard ma na swoim koncie także role telewizyjne, m.in. kreację Rogera Rogersona w kontrowersyjnym i oklaskiwanym przez krytyków serialu dramatycznym "Blue Murder", za który otrzymał "Australian Logic Award for Most Outstanding Actor".
