David Alan Mamet (born November 30, 1947) is an American playwright, essayist, screenwriter and film director. Best known as a playwright, Mamet has won a Pulitzer Prize, and Tony nominations for Glengarry Glen Ross (1984) and Speed-the-Plow (1988). As a screenwriter, he received Oscar nominations for The Verdict (1982) and Wag the Dog (1997). Mamet's books include The Old Religion (1997), a novel about the lynching of Leo Frank; Five Cities of Refuge: Weekly Reflections on Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy (2004), a Torah commentary, with Rabbi Lawrence Kushner; The Wicked Son (2006), a study of Jewish self-hatred and antisemitism; and Bambi vs. Godzilla, a commentary on the movie business.

David Alan Mamet ist ein US-amerikanischer Dramatiker, Drehbuchautor, Filmregisseur, Produzent, Dichter und Schriftsteller. Er ist seit den 1970er Jahren an erfolgreichen Theater- und Filmprojekten beteiligt und gilt inzwischen als Kulturkritiker.

Su última película es Redbelt, inspirada en el mundo MMA, Mixed Martial Arts (artes marciales mixtas), uno de los fenómenos actuales en Estados Unidos. Ha colaborado con numerosos cinturones negros, como Randy Couture y John Machado, que han sido sus consejeros para las escenas de combate.

También probó suerte en el mundo de las series televisivas, pues aceptó un proyecto de la CBS, The Unit, donde narraba la historia de un grupo de élite secreto del ejército estadounidense y tuvo bastante éxito entre 2006 y 2009.
