Discuss Beyoncé

Her behavior as of lately is embarrasing and her working with Dr. Luke and being proud of it is just sad. That rollout is worse than anything I have seen from a popgirl.

She’s been problematic from the start. I respected her status as a main pop girl, but her beginnings always rubbed me the wrong way.

Now, following two flop eras, she’s openly supporting republicans, endorsing Elon Musk, and working with Dr. Luke.

She was never special, interesting, or uniquely talented, so I’m actually kind of here for her downfall. It’s not a huge loss. Pop music has progressed passed the need for a Katy Perry type.

She and Russell Brand really had things in common.

Sad, I liked a lot of her songs although I never thought of her as particularly talented person nor do I think she ever looked or came across as someone who would be a pop icon. I'm kinda surprised how long she lasted all things considered.

I always liked Kesha more

the only one to be blamed here is the industry. they pull the strings. nothing ever progresses for the good. no one talks about the loudness war. it is real, clark kent

Holy cow, really? So Katy has fallen down the same far-right rabbit hole that has claimed many artists. It shouldn't be the biggest surprise since Katy was raised super conservative, and her initial fame was as a Christian singer, but it's still a surprise. Art is by nature progressive. Artists can't succeed by slopping out the same country music 12 bar blues from 100 years ago. The most relevant artists today are exploring new ideas, rather than clinging to conservative ways (artistic as well as political).

That's why I have a lotta respect for Taylor Swift because unlike Katy, Taylor had the same conservative background, literally got her fame in country music, but has since evolved in a progressive direction and proved it works.

Yes I know I'm conflating political views with artistic style, but the two are intertwined. You'll never hear Ted Nugent exploring electronic beats, industrial metal or anything remotely "new" (even though those are 20 fricken years old) and I'm convinced a lot of this is because he's become the political mouthpiece for the far right who like their music, well, old.

Anyway, bummer. I was a Katy Perry fan in the old days but I agree her star has faded and she's probably grasping for any loyal base that will have her. It's low hanging fruit to grab the far right population. Just yell "Trump for prez" and they'll buy your album even if it's a busted banjo for 45 mins. Conversely, if you dare criticize a republican prez... look no further than the Dixie Chicks tragedy. The original cancel culture was republicans shaming the Dixie Chicks for opposing the Iraq War.

It's kinda ridiculous that musical artists need to play politics at all, but still we can see a lot of patterns. In general the progressives like Bowie and Taylor Swift and even Gaga are the ones who get to the top and stay relevant across generations. I've never heard of a right wing musician who made it big with young crowds anywhere outside country music stations. (Yea don't get me started on Kanye, he's heading for a colossal downfall of R.Kellyan proportions...)

Didn’t Kesha already come out saying she lied and made the whole thing up?
