I let out a moan as I read this. Apparently, the actor - the first black man to win the best actor Oscar - has transitioned at the age of 94.
Rest in peace, Mr. Poitier... without you, in a way, we'd have no Laurence, no Denzel, we would've had no Chadwick, no Forest and so on.
My condolences go out to Mr. Poitier's family; I know he has daughters, including Sydney, who's an actor herself.

One of the actors whose art truly changed the stage for all to follow. I just saw For the Love of Ivy recently and I was blown away at how he took such a racially charged story and played it with grace, charm and authority. I rank him up there with Billie Holiday as one of the most courageous minority entertainers in the history of this country. RIP Sir with love.

I've heard of Robeson, but not the rest. Your reply sounds somewhat academic at best. (Hey, that rhymed!)
There you go, going after me again.

I've seen Blacula. (that's how it's spelled, BTW). The guy you mentioned didn't impress me like Poitier did in his films.

Here's one of many roles of William Marshal (The Cartoon King):

I’m familiar with him as a director. I saw his blaxploitation film Trouble Man, which was memorably scored by Marvin Gaye. It was a’ight. But your reminder is itself telling, as Poitier hardly needs one as an actor.

I needed you to remind me of who Ivan Dixon is. Sidney Poitier needs no such reminder for me.

I didn't say you didn't know who Poitier was. I mentioned Marshall & Dixon.

Right. You asked me, 'You never heard of Ivan Dixon?' That was like a reminder that I did know him, as a director. Poitier has so much greater name recognition - for me and probably many more, I imagine.

Poitier was the first black man to win the best actor Oscar. Take it how you like.

I don't understand what you mean... are you saying he "passed" for white, like some very light-skinned black folks did (and maybe still do?) Please explain. I won't sit here and pretend to know it all; I am open to factual info .
