Playwright, radio writer, television story editor and children's author are all terms used to describe Marty Chan's creative career, a career that has been, in part, shaped by Marty's having grown up as the only Chinese child in the small Alberta community of Morinville. Marty, however, was actually born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on May 11, 1965. He is married to Michelle Chan. when he first entered university, he was enrolled in engineering. Realizing his real love was writing, he became an English major and graduated from the University of Alberta. His writing career included a stint with the provincial government, but writing for the stage, for radio, and for television soon became his focus. He even worked for a year as an actor playing a Chinese restaurateur in the television series “Jake and the Kid” before joining the scriptwriting team.
