While I was over the moon with Olivia Colman's somewhat unexpected Oscar win, one cannot help but feel bad for Glenn Close, who seemed poised to win on her seventh nomination. While she is in her seventies now, she is still active and works regularly and hopefully she will have another chance ahead. I suspect that the next time she is involved in a project remotely in Oscar territory, she will be a strong favourite.

What made it especially unfortunate is that pretty much all news outlets, etc. had been reporting she was universally considered a shoo-in this time around, like her win wasn't at all in doubt. She, therefore, probably figured they were actually correct.
At the rate Miss Close has so far been going, she may eventually be deemed in need of a Lifetime Achievement Award, to make up for all the times she was nominated for Best Actress but didn't win.

Yes, I think she’s a shoo-in for an honorary Oscar. I do think they’ll wait a few years yet, though. If the long-awaited screen version of the Sunset Boulevard musical comes to fruition, I would imagine she’ll be heavily favoured.
