Sometimes I feel his career has been defined by pre Meg Ryan and post Meg Ryan- with most of his best movies coming in the former bracket!!

I have always liked him and found him rather under appreciated as an actor. His best films are surely Breaking Away and The Right Stuff, both bona fide classics, but his best performance may well be In Good Company, one of the most unfairly overlooked mainstream American movies of he first few years of the millennium, a real gem.

Yep I saw it, and would agree that it's underrated. Very sharp and enjoyable culture clash between him and the younger Grace. Without sounding pretentious, in the hands of Billy Wilder it may have had a bit more bite but there's still an acerbic undertone ie its depiction of corporate downsizing.
