The Movie Database Support

Hello everyone! I'm finally at a point where enough stuff is done and polished that I feel like we can really spread the word now. I wrote a blog post this afternoon which I think should give some weight to the fact that I'm in this to stay.

If you can take any time to help spread the word, this time backed with an official stamp of approval, now would be a great time to do that. Here's the 3 official posts, you can use whichever is your preferred method:

Are there things left to do? Of course, but at least now I feel like what's sitting in front of us is worth talking about. Thanks guys smile I already noticed that I think today was our busiest day on the boards, so keep it up!

@travisbell

Fantastic work! I've never spammed a site before but between today (tonight that is) I will copy a portion of your Blog along with the link to the Blog on 30 Movie boards at IMDB. One small favor. Go back and spell check the Blog. You Mis-typed watchlist. It was a fat-finger-check no doubt!

Glad all that hard work is beginning to pay off!

Actually I replied to bump this thread.

Wouldn't it be helpful if you could make some threads / discussions 'stick', like this one, before it ends up on page 2?

Wow, they don't make ads like that anymore!

Yes, sticky posts could be useful.

Thanks @travisbell bell for all you do! I'll get some links posted at other places!

(Trivia note:  Stickies were requested by some IMDb board users but never implemented.  And now IMDb's support is on GetSatisfaction.com which has also brushed-aside a number of requests to implement stickies.)

BTW, a suggestion:
One thing I don't like about typical "stickies" is how they take up space at the top of a board all the time.  ... Idea:  Consider giving each forum a button to "Collapse Stickies".  Store that state in a cookie, so the stickies can stay collapsed on a revisit.  And if there's some recent activity in the collapsed stickies, then either color the button red or restore the stickies to normal automatically so we'll catch the new content.  ... Does this make sense or is it a dumb idea?

Sounds good to me, LucusNon

It is not a dumb idea, I'll see what I can come up with.

^ Thanks!  (But I should amend what I wrote above.  I'll admit that the "collapsing" idea can be LOW-priority suggestion for a future enhancement.  Just establishing sticky support is IMO more important.)

You bet.

I've been mentioning this site on a few forums, neogaf, imdb, made a reddit post about it in r/movies last week. Will continue to do so. I think everyone should head over to imdb these last few days and throw in a few last mentions before the boards are gone for good. Regadless, building a user base takes time but itl happen. This is by far the best alternative, the only one really.

I agree. Be prepared as there is some pain being experienced by those who really are already missing IMDB and have found a new home. These solicitations to join TMDB I guess feel like a devaluation of their new homes that they have built and moved into.

Every time I see you post about this site - and especially when I actually take a look at their almost non-existent AoS board - I think of one particular line from what might just be the most quotable movie of all time: Mean Girls. So I'm just gonna say it now:

Stop trying to make themoviedb happen. It's not going to happen.

Ahhhhh, but it already has! grinning

@rgreen7313 isn't kidding. I've gotten some blowback from people after mentioning themoviedb. I suppose the anger of IMDb closing their boards needs to be vented somewhere.

ehm :-)

feel free to bump my posts on the other side, if you see post starting "If you want to keep discussing XYZ..." in any popular movie boards it's me :-) made maybe 30-40 threads like that in most popular movies currently and also at some other well known movies like Inception, Interstellar, TDK, etc.

also don't forget to edit your Play store review for IMDb app to complain about shutting down forums and mention TMDb there
