The Movie Database Support

I didn't see where this was asked before so if it has been, please forgive me for asking. On IMDB, a lot of my old posts would expire over time. Does this site have a "shelf life" for posts? If so, what's the duration? I saw a post in the Aliens forum that vanished and I wondered if the poster had deleted it or if it went away on its own.

Hi @CrazyIvanova!

There is no expiration here, no. If a post vanished it would have been deleted by the original poster.

Ok. Thanks for clearing that up! smiley

... If a post vanished it would have been deleted by the original poster.

Or (not in this case but others), perhaps by a moderator?

Or that. grinning Yes I guess I sort of assumed it was understood the mods could use their "modly powers" against trolls. But this post didn't seem deliberately provocative. Sure it was negative about the movie but everybody's entitled to their opinion. I disagreed with it and it seemed most of the replies he got also disagreed so maybe that's why he took it down. Anyway thanks for the clarification.

Mods don't have power to edit or delete posts/threads. :)

OK, what do mods do if they find something that violates terms and does need to be deleted?

(If the answer is "tell Travis and he deals with it", that's OK I guess;
although, if the userbase scales-up a lot in the future, then maybe
a more "scalable" solution could become necessary?).

If it's just one/some posts in a/some threads, we tell Travis indeed. There are no forum moderators right now - I don't know about the future though! If one person is solely being here to troll/be offensive, we can ban them.

I posted a response on that Aliens forum that vanished and was wondering where it went as well. I assumed the person who created the thread deleted it. There was some good comments about the film in that thread. It would be a nice feature if someone decided to delete a thread only their comments were deleted and all the responses remained, but that may not be possible to do.

Perhaps that feature could work as follows:

If we click "Delete" on a post or reply
after further replies have been posted below it,
then the system should not really delete it,
but instead automatically edit it,
replacing the text with a note saying:
"This comment has been deleted."

BTW, should I have posted this under "Website Support?" Guess I'm not that observant, I only just now noticed there's a forum for that. Oops! grin
