So you don't have to respond with just a "haha, that's funny" or ":-D" or something. What's the function of likes on Facebook, on Instagram? :)
I don't use Facebook or instagram so I don't know.
but as it stands right now the only ones who will be aware of that "response" is any people who might be reading that particular post, meaning, if you get a normal reply you will get an email notification so that you can read the response. However if forum user X decide to press "like" instead typing a text response, no notification is sent out and the person that user X responded to will never know that X did indeed respond.
In the future I have some plans to support a "daily digest" type notification (email and/or notification centre). I think showing you some info around the likes at that time would make sense.
