In (S)TOS she had feelings for Spock. In (S)SNW you will see how it starts. Il nuovo Star Trek è come una telenovela

Yes, Christine had a crush on Spock in TOS , but Spock never showed interested in her / nor reciprocated.

so Knix is right : it's all BS claptrap retcon nonsense

There is a lot of retcon. As I've already said, the show is a mix of (S)TOS and "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Star Trek: Picard", with references to the two latter shows. It's recognizable with some of the old characters - e.g. Spock, Uhura, Christine, Kirk's brother - and even villains - e.g augments and Khan, Gorn - with some good scenes - e.g. Anson Mount is great, though he is not Jeffrey Hunter - but it also has a lot of soap drama with the characters brooding over their past.

In this old post I mentioned an article where the first four episodes were reviewed, before the show premiered.

By the way, episode 4 "Memento Mori (2022)" is about the Gorn and La'an. Episode 5 "Spock Amok (2022)" is about Spock and T'Pring. In (S)SNW it is 2259, seven years before the episode "Amok Time (1967)", which happened in 2266. Spock should be going through Pon Farr 'again', unless the writers decide otherwise.

the only real problem I have with this one is all the trauma and dark history introduced so early. I know, I know they did the same thing on TNG and Deep Space 9 but I kind of wanted to live with the characters first and then find out their stories. I think the fault lies in, among other things, the season is only 9 episodes.

I'm not bothered by the historical inaccuracies tbh. TOS was made up as they went along and was frankly clunky with their histories too. I think the trek stories are all sea stories told by unreliable narrators anyway. It's refreshing that this one doesn't just plain stink like TNG DS9 and Enterprise did for their first seasons and a half. The casting of this one may be the best of all Treks. Oh, the fireplace.

Ten episodes, unless they decided not to show the last one. wink

Better than nine! I swore I read it was only nine this year.

Amok Time is one of my all time favourite episodes . Spock says that he hoped being half Human would have spared him from going through pon farr...So in Amok time, it's the first time Spock is experiencing pon farr. Full stop.

Should Spock experience pon farr in 2259 under the command of Pike, that would trash Amok Time canon...that frankly would piss me off. The writers seem to get a kick in ruining it for those that have loved Star Trek since they were ( in my case ) teens. I don't see why they brought Chapel on board either. I don't care much about Kirk's brother being there but it annoys me when they retcon the main characters in TOS.

What do you mean by that ? .. Anson's Pike and Ethan Peck as Spock are the only two things I enjoyed about season2 of ST Discovery.

Yeah, just slap Star Trek on any old crap! Who cares if it doesn't make any sense? The "writers" of this crap certainly don't, so why should you?

Just consume like a good little sheep.

TOS was made up as they went along and was frankly clunky with their histories too.

Let's see, 1 was a brand-new series at the time with no established universe or rules to adhere to, while the other 1 is a current brand-new series supposedly set in the same universe which has long since been established.

Wow, what a great comparison! I'm impressed by the logic applauds

My tricorder says it's registering a huge deposit of Ignoramum crystals. It seems to be coming from your unnuanced, blanket statement.

Not sure you ever watched those 30+ episodes of TNG, those 30+ episodes of DS9, and those 30+ episodes of ENT when you say utter nonsense like those "plain stink"

I just mean that I like Anson's portrayal of Captain Pike. Although different from that of Jeffrey Hunter, it is good and convincing. If (S)SNW was just him and his missions, without all those characters from (S)TOS and changes, including the fact that he knows of his dark future and he is constantly worrying about it, then the show would be good as an entertaining SF action series.

The writers are retconning so much about Spock, that anyone watching (S)TOS now, would ask themselves "if Spock knew all this already, why didn't he tell Kirk?". The same with Uhura and Christine. They know about the Gorn, augments (Khan?) and they didn't say anything in (S)TOS.

Of course, the Enterprise series was chock-full of BS claptrap retcon nonsense too. Including the previously-mentioned Augments, etc.
