Back in the 90s, Marvel published a monthly comic about Pike's crew.
Hint: the uniforms were in line with canon, Klingons looked like Klingons, Pike behaved like Pike, and Uhura, Chapel and M'Benga weren't part of it.
It's almost like the writers actually watched Star Trek before writing these prequel adventures

Chekov shouldn't have been in the Jar Jar Abrams movies either. Being at least 10 years younger than Kirk (as established in "Who Mourns For Adonais," for sure) if Kirk gets command of the Enterprise at like 22 instead of 32, Chekov would be in like 6th Grade.
