Manuela, a photographer living in isolation, meets young Alba, who lives a life devoid of her parents' love. Concerned about her, Manuela takes Alba. However, Alba's mother Yolanda panics.

While attempting to adopt Alba, Manuela realises her wallet was stolen; the police investigate Alba's disappearance and question Yolanda as to why the young girl was outside alone at night.

Manuela and Alba, now known as Paloma, have to come to terms with Manuela's flawed past as they seek her family's help; the town criticises Yolanda and Lucho when the truth about Alba's abuse comes to light.

Manuela informs everyone that Paloma is her daughter, which comes as a huge shock, especially to Héctor, her ex-boyfriend; Yolanda and Lucho arrive in Madrid.
