بعد يأس (هربرت دوبرفيلد) من حياته بعد وفاة شقيقه وزوج شقيقته خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية، يستعيد اﻷمل من جديد حين يتوجه إلى السودان ويعتنق الدين الإسلامي ويغير اسمه إلى (عبدالقادر)، ومن بعدها ينتقل إلى صعيد مصر، ويقع في الحب مع فتاة من أعيان الصعيد

Herbert Doperfield is desperate after his brother and his brother in law die during the Second World War, he regains hope again when he goes to Sudan and embraces Islam and changes his name to Abdul Kader. He then moves to Upper Egypt and falls in love with a girl from the big families there.
