I know! Truthfully I think any society would become more like Mad Max than any other society. At some point, people change. Civilization changes. What's unacceptable today becomes normal tomorrow.

While society might develop into a Mad Max type eventually, I don't think it would happen so soon. I'm hoping there is some good explanation as to where and why this Junkyard group developed. Of all the groups in the show, I can't see a plausible origin for this one.
