Best season?

I've discovered The Shield recently and think it's amazing.
The way it's shot/edited is raw and real as hell and the characters are so rich and compelling. Been watching the seasons out of sequence, due to... circumstances. Haven't yet seen season 5 or 7, which many deem the best seasons, and I'm halfway through the first season now. Of the complete seasons I've seen, the 2nd is my favourite and the 6th is my least favourite.
What's the feeling on here?
Really hoping the supposedly on the way blu ray set sees the light of day at some point, and hope also that if it does it's not all smoothed out and gritless.

Season 1 is my favourite. But every season is awesome. The show should be more well known than it is. Along with The Sopranos it made tv what it is today.

5 or 7. I'd probably give the edge to 7.

I think Season 5 and Season 7 are the ones that pack the bigger punch, but I think all of them are great. If anything, I think the first one and maybe Season 6 feel like the "weakest", but really, the show is great from start to finish.
