I don't get this character or episode(s). Is it supposed to be funny or be some kind of PSA against spousal abuse? I find it kind of ugly and unfunny and I always skip those episodes during a rewatch.

Yeah, that episode was a hard watch. Thought I read there WAS a message or reason behind the episode.
