On September 15, Keicho, a young man, Takezo, whose life was ruined by the war in Sekigahara wandered around like a wild beast. 慶長五年九月十五日、関ケ原の戦いで、栄達の夢を打ち砕かれ、戦争によって人生を狂わされた青年武蔵（たけぞう）の若い情熱は、野獣の如く行き場を求めてさまようのだった。落ち武者狩りの手を逃れ、すべての人と敵対する武蔵のことを、恋人のお通と平和主義者の僧・沢庵だけが理解した。そして、山に逃げ込んだ武蔵に危機が迫る。その頃、越前浄教寺村では剣の天才・佐々木小次郎が強さを求め、反対する師・富田勢源を打ち負かして村を飛び出していた。
