Discuss Can't Buy Me Love

Item: Can't Buy Me Love

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: The show currently has two different episode and season numbers for the same episodes on different streaming sites:

  • Netflix (where episodes release two days ahead of the broadcast and other streaming sites) has 150 episodes in Season 1;

  • iWantTFC (the "official" streaming platform of ABS-CBN, the studio producing this show) has 70 episodes in Season 1 with episodes 71 and later (of the Netflix episode numbering) in Season 2, restarting the episode numbers at 1; while

  • YouTube (in the channel also run by ABS-CBN) follows the same episode numbering as Netflix.

This means that Season 1 Episode 71 in Netflix and YouTube is exactly the same as Season 2 Episode 1 in iWantTFC.

How should this ambiguity in the episode numbers be treated? Currently, TMDB lists Season 1 with 150 episodes and a simultaneous Season 2 with the same release dates for each episode's corresponding Season 1 counterpart. This creates problems and confusion in applications that rely on TMDB data as the episodes of Season 2 are effectively double counted from Season 1. Aside from the differences in episode numbering, the episodes are otherwise the same, content-wise.

Since Netflix episodes release two days ahead of the original broadcast and other streaming sites, should their episode numbering be treated as "canonical" (by virute of being the earliest broadcast date)? Or should it follow the episode numbering of iWantTFC as the official streaming platform of ABS-CBN? The latter has a precedent set in another recent show of ABS-CBN, Senior High (https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/226773), which uses the iWantTFC numbering (resulting in a split Season 1 and 2) and not the YouTube numbering (which would have a single Season 1 with all episodes).

Another possibility is a separate season list for Netflix such as in Dirty Linen (https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/202250), however the issue with Dirty Linen is not exactly the same as with Can't Buy Me Love because the "Prime Cut" season is a complete recut of the original broadcast episodes into 12 new episodes, and not a copy/duplicate from the previous seasons.
