Not according to the BBC. The 2005 Doctor Who series ended in 2022 and the 60th anniversary specials, the 2023 Christmas special, and presumably the first regular season of Ncuti Gatwa's incarnation all belong to a new Doctor Who series.

That's massively impractical for everyone and doesn't reflect the reality of the situation.

That is the reality of the situation. The BBC is the one that decided that the 2005 series ended and that this is new series; we are just following the original network.
