It happens in so many shows. The couple finally gets together, then the supposedly dead husband shows up. It's so predictable and annoying. Can't the writers think of something more original.

I totally agree with you. In this series' case, I think it ultimately does kind of work though, as it, in certain type ways, somewhat advances the story and characters development.
Incidentally, actor Benjamin Winspear who portrays husband Rene is the real-life husband of series star Marta Dusseldorp. That no doubt explains how such a dull actor got such a substantial role in an otherwise very well cast series in which everyone else has actual personalities and charisma.

All these series do is keep the would be lovers apart until the end of the series to keep the audience watching imo. Talented writers should be able to do better than that. Unfortunately when it comes to tv shows they seem to run out of ideas around the 4th season.
No haven't watched the second season yet. Thanks for the heads up on Rene lol..
