I own an older dvd collection of this series which matches the content on imdb. The content shown here splits the pilot (saga of a star world) into 3 episodes. The dvd set I have and imdb is only 1 episode. I don't know if the newer releases are different. This is really screwing up tagging the series in plex and I have to tag everything manually.

Hi! We always try to follow the original release. So the content on IMDb or a subsequent DVD release has no influence on how we present the data. That being said, I do believe the pilot most likely aired as one TV movie.

I understand but you are completely missing the point. Since a lot of media managers such as plex use the metadata from tmdb, when it is incorrect, it will not correctly tag media and will mess up a user's library. A user may be under the impression that the tmdb is mostly accurate and they discover that it has messed up their media library and they then have to spend a significant amount of time manually fixing the metadata information from tmdb.

@vornek You're right. I am completely missing the point you are trying to make..

I also feel the episode listing here is wrong and the list as reported on wikipedia is more accurate listing 24 episodes -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Battlestar_Galactica_(1978_TV_series)_and_Galactica_1980_episodes
This is also the same list that is reported on TheTVDB -> https://www.thetvdb.com/series/battlestar-galactica/seasons/1
If possible this would be good to fix. Would be happy to do it myself but its locked.

@banana could you please explain why this was closed as this is still an issue IMO.

I already explained by decision in a post above. I didn't think I needed to repeat myself. All databases -- TMDb, IMDb, Wikipedia and TVDB -- have different guidelines for cases like this one. And asking for me to reverse the changes, without any evidence, roughly a week later is... not cool.

IMHO this is a ridiculously decision but will accept what you have decided. I understand the rules but you say above you 'try' to follow the original release. For some shows this is acceptable but for this one its not and I'm sure others agree. Episodes are not only in the wrong order but some are missing.

To clarify: we try our best to show the episodes as they were initially released, BUT reliable info for older TV series is sometimes hard to come by. In this case, though, there was plenty of material to support it originally aired a one TV movie.

If it was a single release, it is no evidence that this was not Episode 1-3. You have no evidence of the original episode numbering. Why is calling it Episode 1-3 against the original release? Every source, even officials call it episode 1-3. It looks like you are subborn on this.
You know what that does with movie scrapers do you?
Well there is still www.thetvdb.com

Guys, please understand that we have clear guidelines for cases like this one and that it's impossible to make everyone happy. Case in point: two opposite sides were argued in this topic and used two similar arguments (ie. makes scrapping harder, another database has different data).
Feel free to do your own research, but you're grasping at straws..

I've given up trying to reason with the moderators on this topic -- they believe they are right -- fans of the show know the facts!

Please how can you be so stubborn. As far as i can see its only you. The rules say "Our main goal is to reproduce the seasons exactly as they first aired on the original network.". How does it rule out callign it episode 1-3. Even official releases are fine with that.

This is just for info, taken from the following webpage that looks like someone knows what they write about (be aware -> yellow script on black screen might hurt your eyes
):
http://www.kobol.com/archives/bgdiff.html
Under the first point, "V1. Overview", you can read the following paragraph (the bold parts by me):
"Periodically discussed in this document is a copy of the three-hour screenplay "Saga of a Star World", last revised May 8, 1978 (Prod. #50201, formerly #85245). Other known versions include the following: August 30 1977, September 14 1977, Februrary 27 1978, March 2 1978, March 28 1978, March 31 1978, April 6 1978. An earlier version of the script (September 14) features Skyler as Apollo, Lyra as Serina, and Boxey as an orphan unrelated to Lyra."
Which means: tv network ABC aired this pilot as 1 long episode under the title "Saga of a Star World" and with the single production code #50201. According to this, there's no doubt that it aired like this originally.
On this webpage, this version is called "V3. Network Television Broadcast (TV)" -> you can read more details about it under this point. The other version with the split pilot is called "V7. Syndicated Version (SV)", and this version was then cut again for "V10. Sci-Fi Channel (SFC)" -> both of these are the most popular tv versions of the show/pilot. However, they are not the original version.
