Are we all agreed it's going to be Johnny Depp?
Unless people sign up here, answer and debate it's forever going to be Johnny Depp as the top choice.

I would rather have Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as co Doctors than John Depp I want a complete unknown UK actor

I don't think Johnny Depp has been the top choice for anything in a while (remember to pronounce hwile.)
Unlikely that they'll cast favourites like Hugh Laurie or such. Capaldi was a bit unexpected, being well-known before this gig. Eccleston was a bit of a coup as well, as I recall.
Most likely even most brits will have never heard of the chosen one, much like Matt Smith.
Depp can play a monster of the week, say a drunken lascivious pirate for a change?

Hey all, I do think a relative unknown may be the best bet. Capaldi was great but especially when he was doing the "shut up, shut up" scene I kept expecting it to morph into his other well known character. It's nice to see someone come in with no expectations for how they might play the role and see what they do with the part.
Out of the likely selection the one I keep coming back to is Olivia Coleman. I do think they will go with a woman at some point. Once they decided it could happen (something the classic series never indicated) then it is probably just a question of when. I do think she is an excellent actor and has the slightly quirky side they may work for the role.
My fear is what the writers will do if it happens. I have no faith they will not fall to old tropes of female intuition, motherhood and mothering instinct and writing "strong" female characters by writing weak male ones.

Urghh that would be an awful idea. He's already had 2 regenerations he's not getting a third. Besides the Doctor has a new regeneration cycles now so Capaldi is new cycle number 1 so 12 more different doctors to go.
