I just watched the Season 9 finale and have to say Grantchester has been just as good as ever - dare I say even better than ever?!?! And what a surprise. I didn't hold out a lot of hope when yet another vicar left the show, but Rishi Nair as the new guy has been a welcomed change for the better, as IMO all of the personal baggage of James Norton and Tom Brittney as the first two vicars got a bit wearying at times. Vicar Alphy Kotteram had to deal with some racial prejudice but it wasn't overplayed, and he fit in easily with the wonderful ensemble of actors. I guess we should thank the writing for that, as not only the warmth of the regulars continued to come through, but also the supporting and troublemaking characters were well-written too. I don't recall a more suspenseful finale than this one -- I was literally on the edge of my seat. Bravo!!!
