I loved, LOVED, season 1 (haven't started season 2 yet). What do you guys think?
Well...
When you say “in years”, just how far back are you going?
Because on a "best" list I’d rank the following shows ahead of this one:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
Almost Human
Dark Matter
Eureka
Falling Skies
Fringe
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Warehouse 13
Still; it's a great show...never heard of it until someone on another Board recommended it. Glad I decided to check it out...had me at the first episode.
I haven't seen all of those shows. I am watching Dark Matter and like it a lot. I probably like it a little bit more than The Expanse at this point, though I have to say that the special effects are better in The Expanse than the Dark Matter. I liked Almost Human. What happened to that show?
Fringe was great, but more fantasy than sci fi. Warehouse 13 was interesting, but struck me as a little more of a kids show than an adult show.
I wish Thomas Jane were still on The Expanse. Perhaps he will return though. He crashed in the station with that blue crystal stuff with the mysterious properties. For all we know, that stuff might have saved him. I expect it will have changed him a great deal. Anyway I like his acting and his character in this show.

none of those shows would make my list....seriously dark matter better than Expanse?

I’m a firm believer that a good (or even great) sci-fi show doesn’t have to be all blood-and-guts-and-woes all the time. There is nothing wrong with a little tongue-in-cheek here-and-there. A few of my favorites have done a skillful job of making-it-work by combining science and drama and fiction with a dose or two of lightheartedness:
Warehouse 13
The Librarians
Eureka
As for Thomas Jane--same here. Keeping my fingers crossed! (Let's not forget that old adage about "if you didn't see a body...."
I think a lot of people think it's slow to pick up.
Well don't tell them about Mars they may go into a coma. I liked it though for whatever shortcomings.
The pacing was one of the first things that stood out to me, but in a positive way. It's refreshing to see a show that doesn't mind taking its time unfolding story and character. There were episodes in season 1 where very little happened as far as action or events, it was all character development via dialogue - loved it.
Not sure how I got to see this series, was not on my radar (usually prepare for new shows months in advance), but season 1 was almost over when I started. Managed to see the whole in a short time. They managed to center the show on 2 very different characters that each have a different view and role in the world (+ Deputy Avasarala) that allows to both discover the specificities of the factions and world.
It's both deep storyline, great acting, fast pace, and impressive images. Not sure what to expect of future season (s) as the first one left a strong impression.
This and Ash vs Evil Dead ('til next time Ash) are my favorite newer shows, followed closely by Agents of Shield. These are the shows that when I see a new episode is on the DVR I get excited but try and ration out watching so they're not gone too fast...lol
I like the Expanse considerably more than BSG which fell flat as much as it rocked. The steady escalation in story and character development in The Expanse has been "stellar".
WHAT? The Expanse has been canceled? So this is the last season? Dammit. It has the best graphics, a great story, and strong cast.
Why do they keep canceling great shows?
SyFy must find it too expensive. It’s all about money. When you can repeat old shows and plat a bunch of reality shit for a fraction of the cost you don’t care about leaving a legacy of quality. BSG must have had far superior viewership that it got to finish. SyFy is a joke of a channel. The Expanse and Krypton are the only things I watch on it right now and even then Krypton pales in comparison to The Expanse.

DITTO!
They keep canceling their best shows. Krypton and The Expanse are the only shows I watch as well. I also think The Expanse is better than Krypton, but Krypton is good. So how long until they cancel it as well?
In a sense it is a copy of Gotham, a back story to a well known comic book story. Not surprising that someone tried to copy that idea. That's fine. It's an idea that works.
But if it is deemed too expensive compared to other shows I imagine it too will wind up canceled before long.
Are they ever going to bring 12 Monkeys back? Dammit.

Me too, same with BCS; there're only so many intergalatic space battles I can tolerate before I want something interesting instead.
