Season 1 had to set everything up, and get us familiar with the factions, various elements, and the "universe" at large. In season 2, they can forego most of that :)
Season 1 was awesome because it had that "new show" feel. Season 2 is certainly no sophomore slump, but I am wondering about the overall direction of the narrative. They have set up several possibilities that will seem like been there and done that.

At 4 episodes into season 2, they are still on book 1 (some elements from book 2, like Bobby).
I thought the first season was a bit rough but this season has been excellent. Tonight's episode was pretty amazing.
I haven't read the books so now I'm sort of left wondering where it could go from here. I guess I'll tune in next week to find out.
P.S. - I'm really happy that TMDb picked up IMDb's slack and started these Message Boards. I was saddened when I instinctively went there to see what others had to say about tonight's episode only to be reminded of the misguided removal of their boards. Thanks TMDb!
Like others I also thought the 1st season started a little slow. It was needed, but I did wonder if the payout would be worth it. It most definitely was worth it for me. I also have never read the books and feel no need to. I love the idea of not knowing what may be coming next. I think this season has just been a natural progression from season 1. It's all been good for me.

They outdid themselves again. Now that I have a hint of where it is going, I'm pretty excited.
It's amazing that a channel that once gave us Sharknado and had become the home of the WWE has turned it around and is now responsible for such an awesome show. When it comes to science fiction, the visual effects and production quality are far superior to anything that television has ever produced. The best thing is that the show isn't just eye candy, it's got a well-developed storyline and competent actors as well.

I spent most of season one confused about what was happening. This season has a bit more clarity.
