But I don't know what to expect. I like a lot of sci-fi shows, such as Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Stargate. Hell, Firefly is good aswell.
Is this show similar to those, or is it it's own thing?
If so, can you describe it?

I'm actually up to speed with the show now.
It is quite good. Some aspects I really like, and some are, not quite at the same level. Character decisions are sometimes illogical and don't make sense. And it feels like some characters can read the script sadly (atleast in how fast they make their decisions).
But overall, the world-building is excellent and it has an atmosphere that suits space sci-fi. I'd say it deserves a 7/10 rating so far with potential to reach even higher.

One thing that bugs me more and more is the James Holden character and his anger management issues. He has been compared to Kip Harrington /Jon Snow -reluctant hero in GOT. But the writing for his character is light y7ears better than Holden.

Yeah he's more like James Wood than Jon Snow. Both the character and the actors somewhat wooden portayal.

Recommend using SYFY's website to get more details about the characters, politics and spacecraft and literally track everyone's location within the inner system during each episode.
