Sorry I missed your Thread before seeing the finale. (Although, since I was wrong about both of my predictions...that may not have been a bad thing.)
Anyway...
Since you have already started this Thread about the finale, I'll ask my question here.
Naomi gave the Protomoleculeto she stashed to Fred Johnson so that the Belters would be on equal footing weapon-wise with Earth and Mars.
Did she do the right thing?
I know the idea of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) is supposed to keep each side from going to war against the others. But, the Belter’s leadership is on such shaky grounds that Fred Johnson may soon be overthrown.
I know Naomi made a "deathbed" decision; but I think she was wrong. I think if (when) Johnson is removed from power the more radical Belters may not show as much restrain as he has shown. After all, they were ready to fire those missiles...which was pretty much guaranteed to get them wiped out.
What say you?

Well we've seen that Fred Johnson is one of the most honest and benevolent people in the show so if there's someone to trust besides the Roci crew, it's him.

I agree about Fred Johnson—him I trust.
Same as Naomi, I have faith in him when it comes to balanced thinking.
But, the Belter radicals I'd worry about.
If Fred Johnson is forced out, then Dawes and the radicals could have control of the Protomolecule... can’t say that I see them being eager to go the “détente” route.
But, even among that group, **MAYBE **saner heads would prevail.

Fred Johnson had been marginalized by events on Tyco Station and I figured he was gone, but with a protomolecule sample , this deals Fred back into the 'game'.
Dawes has the 'scientist' but was looking for protomolecule....now Johnson has what he needs.
This show does a good job of winding each side up -but when push comes to shove they mostly make the best choice from their POV.

I'm a bit disappointed with this finale...not much of a cliff- hanger.
These days a show can be canceled on a snap and the book series this is based on - is 10 volumes long [[some of which have not been written yet].
It seems to line up one season per book.
how do you add a spoiler?

I like the finale. The characters are becoming more real. I guess the plant doctor gets to stay because May was in the final moments, so his storyline needs a resolution. I can't even speculate on what is happening on Venus.

Naomi should have destroyed the protomolecule when she was supposed to.

No at least she playing balancing role dealing Johnson back in. More importantly the Dawes & Johnson now owe her a big favor.

VENUS is they to the future....why did the Martian spaceship completely disappear from radar, while the science ship fragmented into protomolecule and parts/crew etc

I was wondering if the same thing happened to the Martian ship in that it slowly fragmented into many parts but the crew somehow stayed alive. Maybe to the Earth ship it would appear to disappear.

Have they actually renewed the show for another season?

Yes. Nothing until 2018 but it seems very likely based on their press releases and promos.

I re-watched the finale last night. What I noticed then...that I didn't before...is that when Fred Johnson found that protomolecule he looked at it the way "Gollum" looked at "The Ring".
I almost expected him to say “my precious”.
Maybe this thought popped into my head because of a previous scene with Naomi and the Plant Doctor. It's the scene where they standing on the outside of the craft; and Naomi keeps urging a transfixed Prax to just toss the warhead core to Protoman (the same way Sam kept urging a transfixed Fredo to toss The Ring).
Anyway...
That look on Fred Johnson face as he stared at the protomolecule made me wonders whether he is still going to be able to maintain his balance-thinking with all that power in his hands. He wouldn’t be the first leader to be seduced by power.
