Benjamin Button in space.
I watched this one last weekend in a hangoverish daze. I'm sure I missed the subtleties, if any.
I vaguely remember this one from long ago. I specifically remember the "twist" that governor whatshisname was the one holding the hostages so that he could lure the admiral in the Captain Pike wheelchair over for some vengeance. I completely forgot that this admiral got younger and younger.
Some arbitrary thoughts:
Captain Picard had to beam down with the landing party for a reason -- someone had to issue the "run away" command.
That governor sure had a familiar sounding voice. About halfway through, I finally pinpointed it. I then mentally replaced all of his dialogue with "I said it should be hauled away AS garbage."
This could be a spiritual sequel to "Private Little War." See what happens, Kirk, when you arm both sides exactly the same. They just fight for years and years. It is better, I suppose, to just arm one side and let them dominate. Then there will be peace.
If there was something meaningful in the story about the guy doing some backward aging, I missed it. His wife was POed because now that he is getting younger, he'll be away again. Okay. But she's there with him. And they apparently do bedroom stuff.
I'll rewatch this some year. There might be a good story inside of it. It seemed like kind of a mess: just like my brain was.

Sounds like you need to see/hear Apollo's speech to the Presidium again.
