Discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation

He seems to be dangerously obsessed with being first officer of the Enterprise and being with Picard and terrified of moving away from his comfort zone and has turned down several captaincies because he just loves being on the Enterprise, we later learn his choosing to stay is having a damaging effect on up and coming candidates in Starfleet like in The Best Of Both Worlds who want to advance in their careers are held up by a man who will not move no matter how many ships he's offered, seems his only logic for staying because his friends are there, he's fond of the ship, he's fond of the captain and is just hanging around, some reason he's happy there and doesn't want to move. Think with all his constant passing up captaincies should have resulted in Starfleet comforting him and saying accept captaincy or sent you to cadet training school to train cadets or something.

PICARD already has had MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT in 10 EPISODES than TNG had in all those YEARS it aired (due to the way MOST of TNG CREW (like RIKER) remain FROZEN and NEVER gets PROMOTED or accepts a PROMOTION for several years).

So whereas the PICARD Characters are constantly CHANGING, TNG characters DO NOT.

They just STAGNATE (just like the OP points out when it says):

Riker is the most stagnate person of all of Starfleet

TV format in TNG's day demanded that everyone stay in the same place doing the same thing for seven years.

Nonsense

Even within the confines of the no conflict between crew members they still managed to develop the characters but for that you have to have talent and creativity something which the writers at Secret Hideout clearly lack.

What kind of ridiculous notion is that character progress has very little to do with what position or rank that character holds or whether a person changes jobs or is promoted that is such an American view

Riker and Troi didn't just got married in Nemesis just watch the previous movie Insurrection

We actually find out a lot about the characters we get to know their pasts, passions, weaknesses insecurities relationships with other crew members their personal convictions etc etc

I notice the subtle development of the characters but hey since subtlety is neither Kurtzman's or Chabon's Forté and if you need your character development delivered in a hamfisted manner fine but don't dare to proclaim there wasn't any character development in TNG .Clearly you should watch the show more carefully because it is there maybe not as much as in DS9 VOY or ENT but it still is there.

Why should I write these things down when one could easily watch all 176 episodes of TNG by yourself and find out so buy the complete series or subscribe CBS All Access and one can see for yourself because I am not going to write an entire essay over the character development of each TNG character.

Just watch the seven seasons of TNG Invidia and you will see for yourself

No it's you who needs to prove the point it is you who came to this thread and started posting al this Picard related nonsense here just because you just can't let things go

Invidia you don't have a penis so there is no point to compete who has the biggest .

No I mean I no longer feel the need in this pissing contest.

Like I said I am not going to waste time in writting an essay size post about the character development of each TNG character when one can easily find out for yourself by watching the show for yourself Invidia I can't help it it if you are too lazy to put in the effort .

Example of Picard being a good Shehard the way he gave Ro Laren a chance to redeem herself or that he gave Sito Jaxa (episode Lower Decks)a chance to redeem herself after having lied under oath in the trail when Wesley and his classmates were charged with iresponsible ,reckless behaviour and breaking Starfleet Academy regulations (the one with Tom Paris who isn't called Tom Paris). To name but a few.

No TNG episode Lower Decks (heck they even can't come up with an original name for their cartoon series)season 6.

Tom Paris was the leader of the group of cadets who in the end of the episode( after Wesley getting one of Picard famous ulogies)takes full responsibility for the death and takes the blame and punishment as leader of the group upon him.

No that despite the fact she was equally guilty of the death for the cadet she manged to escape prosecution and had some bad reviews from previous starships despite Picard intitially disliking her manages to overcome his biases and let her go on a very secret and dangerous mission from which she unfortunately not returns.

And DATA also makes PROGRESS in his GOAL to be more like HUMANS.

Which is why the end in Nemesis was so poignant and meaningfull and why Picard should have left that alone .Certainly with the toast "For absent friends"
