Discuss Big Little Lies

I am quite liking this so far (have seen 2 episodes), but Alexander, every time he is on screen i have to roll my eyes.

I suppose he is not that great of an actor, and being a really nice person, just can't pull off the darkness he is supposed to. No way.

His performance reminded me of a school production of Brecht's Three Penny Opera i once saw. A 16 year old was playing the hooker and it was just so touchingly pathetic.....

I'm a big AS fan, and I think he's doing a great job. But then, I love him doing anything.

I haven't really seen many of his movies. Saw tarzan, but well, it doesn't count. I like the vampire he played in True Blood, forgot his name.

I suppose he isn't awful, just not really good. Too lightweight for this kind of role. My opinion only, no disrespect.

No, that's fine. Everybody has their own opinion. And, I will admit that I am probably biased. Sometimes it's hard to judge someone when you like them so much. And liking someone sometimes happens because of a particular role they have played. In this case, Eric from True Blood. I have seen a few of his movies. They are mostly independent movies, which I like. I thought he was good in them.

Oh, yes, Eric! Thanks! grinning

I love AS too but I think he is miscast in this role. I can't put my finger on it but something is just "off". Maybe lack of chemistry between him and Nicole Kidman? I'm just not buying him in this role.

I think they make a beautiful couple.

I don't know why, it just isn't working for me izzybee3.

That's what IMHO is the strong point in his performance of the character: the relationship is not right, he's abusive, violent and unpredictable, so his behaviour is "off" - most of the time. I find him scary and I think the "lack of chemistry" is on purpose.

Maybe that's it, like I said, can't put my finger on it. Whenever Perry and Celeste are together, my feeling is "how did these two ever end up together"; they just don't "fit" to me. Perhaps it is his volcanic behaviour, how he can go from a loving, caring husband to an abusive nut job in an instant.

Me too. of course minus the abuse.

Yes, ITA. I think Alexander is doing a great job of playing a violent creepy ass abuser who says I'm sorry and I love you by f-ing Nicoles brains out. I have never seen this type of relationship depicted on a show before.

When he was hitting her in the head with those Lego's angry

I think she likes the abuse because of the make-up sex. I just wonder if she is that way because of her love for or dependency on him, or if she had that proclivity before meeting him. Although she acts a little melancholy, she otherwise doesn't seem to be too upset over it. She seems to look forward to it.

"love for or dependency on him, or if she had that proclivity before meeting him." I think it is all of this above.

Last nights episode, sadly she appeared to have way more bruises she was covering up. When she denied to the therapist that her boys know, I thought (maybe some people here are right in thinking it's not Ziggy but the twins )not only do they know but they are just like dad.

Whoa! I haven't watched last nights ep yet. lol. Nothing game changing though. And, I think your right about it being all of the above.
