Discuss Big Little Lies

I am quite liking this so far (have seen 2 episodes), but Alexander, every time he is on screen i have to roll my eyes.

I suppose he is not that great of an actor, and being a really nice person, just can't pull off the darkness he is supposed to. No way.

His performance reminded me of a school production of Brecht's Three Penny Opera i once saw. A 16 year old was playing the hooker and it was just so touchingly pathetic.....

Whoa! I haven't watched last nights ep yet. lol. Nothing game changing though. And, I think your right about it being all of the above.

oh, I am sorry. LOL. You're gonna love it smile

Perry is a scumbag. Period. I think her challenge is breaking up her family. She's more than capable of supporting self and family (lawyer). But seems like a classic abused spouse who doesn't realize this can't be fixed. Not gonna get too psychological or medical but it seems she knows she must get out of this toxic relationship. For the best of all.

Nah, i think he's doing what the role demands, he's not meant to be the hateful abusive husband SOB, he plays the possessive husband part well, but his best job was on True Blood.

No, that's fine. Everybody has their own opinion. And, I will admit that I am probably biased. Sometimes it's hard to judge someone when you like them so much. And liking someone sometimes happens because of a particular role they have played. In this case, Eric from True Blood.

Yes, ITA. I think Alexander is doing a great job of playing a violent creepy ass abuser who says I'm sorry and I love you by f-ing Nicoles brains out. I have never seen this type of relationship depicted on a show before.

When he was hitting her in the head with those Lego's angry

LOL about your description. Also, I was thinking the same thing about never seeing an abuser depicted this way. I know that abusers obviously have some psychological problems (and who doesn't), but I am so torn over him. He loves her so much. I am not saying abuse is ever okay, but I can't help but feel a teensy bit bad for him. Okay, probably because it is AS. My emotions are in an upheaval at seeing him in this role even though I have seen him play a bad guy before. Not as a vampire, but as a real person. And, I didn't feel this way about that character. Maybe its because he is doing such a great job at showing the different sides of a person.

of course minus the abuse.

I think she likes the abuse because of the make-up sex. I just wonder if she is that way because of her love for or dependency on him, or if she had that proclivity before meeting him. Although she acts a little melancholy, she otherwise doesn't seem to be too upset over it. She seems to look forward to it.

Okay, when I posted yesterday I hadn't seen the latest episode. Now I have and it changed things. I won't repeat anything I just posted in another response.

So, the abuse is worse than we had seen before. I should have realized that. It was hard to stomach. And, she is effected by it more than we saw. Her therapy session was very revealing. I don't think she is delusional about it, but that she is trying to convince herself that the good outweighs the bad. And, at the same time she is definitely crying out for help by seeing the therapist without him.

I totally agree.

Yes he really is.

Right, and I hope he never finds out that she went there without him (but he probably will).

The heartbreaking way he cried when she brought the twins to meet him at the airport- he is really doing a great job of portraying the guy you want to fug / stab at the same time.

Yes. I thought about him finding out. It is going to be bad.

Yes, again. He was awesome in that scene. My heart broke for him. I want to know about his past.

Off topic - where are the emoticons?

Yes. Both of theirs.

I had to copy and paste because I don't think I could have explained it clearly.

"Emoji's Start by typing the : character. You'll see an auto complete dialog appear. Start typing happy or thumbsup and the list will filter. Choose one by hitting the 'enter' key. If you'd like to see all of the ones available click here; there are over 1800 emoji's to choose from!"

when you are replying , click on that question mark , there are some other helpful hints there.

I have never seen this type of relationship depicted on a show before.

Strange enough the behaviour displayed by both characters is quite common in an abusive relationship - it's almost textbook-like (unfortunately of the worst kind).
Perhaps it doesn't fit the "standard" crimi's.
