I find the kids to be a good if not great example of apple from tree on top of they mimic or learn so much more than we realize. There are some great scenes of them just being normal kids. From the girl getting bullied to Ziggy & Chloe playing. Even the twin boys reactions and play with their dad which I believe will end up being part of main story.
Also think it makes for greater understanding of each family portrayed. Insight into the issues within each family.
