Had this show been an original SciFi show then I MAYBE could've enjoyed it (although the main character is annoying as hell and that sudden romance development isn't believable at all). But this is supposed to be Star Trek. There hasn't been a single episode with a clever storyline or some kind of philosophical concept. It's almost entirely a pure action show with lasers and pew pew. I'm at episode #12 and I don't think I'll be watching this any further. Sad to see Star Trek go down like this and I doubt we will ever see a good Star Trek show again.

Episode #15, the season finale is all about Starfleet. With the ruthless ex-Terran Emperor at the helm, U.S.S. Discovery finds a way to visit the Klingon home world, Kronos, with a plan to end the Federation-Klingon war. With the choice of defeat or genocide, a third choice allows the Klingons to end their faction-driven war on the Federation. "Michael Burham's" speech before the Federation council is pure Roddenberry. (I wonder who the next captain will be and what he/she/it will make of the previous captain's little chamber of horrors?)

What I found that was strange and /or reset button hit was at the end of episode 12 when as Discovery is going to Vulcan it receives a distress call from the USS Enterprise, Christopher Pike commanding. WTF?

It's episode 15, nevertheless it was hella weird how they went from Dark and Gloomy to Bright and Happy in a span of seconds. I actually felt like WTF??? It's like they realised that in order to bring U.S.S. Enterprise into the mix they needed TOS camp and cheese, weird tonal shift there.

@komrad :😱 I don't have access to CBS All Access and there is no way I can get it, so I follow the show through several other methods. Thanks for the episode number correction.
From what I've read, or from the YouTube clips, I've gotten the impression that the show doesn't seem to know what kind of ST series it wants to be.

Which as we all know, is the worst kind of Star Trek of all.

Maybe they should have called it Battlestar Discovery. There's not much more that could be done to ruin THAT franchise.

Wow, I must be one of the few that are actually enjoying this show. I watched the first couple of episodes and ended up stopping at about episode four or five, watched the rest of it and am not too disappointed but I'm on episode 12 and not finished with the entire season as yet.

What are you blathering about? The speech from Burnham is about as non-Roddenberryian as it gets

That's because the people running things behind the scenes aren't competent. There's Alex Kurtzman for one and also Akiva Goldsman

Star Trek Discovery is the rather embarrassing part of Starfleet history that Starfleet would rather like to ignore.Where it thought that it would look cool if their ship's designs looked like if a Constitution class starship was raped by a Klingon battlecruiser ,that they decided to ignore Daniel's explicit commands not to use the 31st century technology and where the crew all seem bi-polar ,strung out on prozac and acting like assholes.Discovery is that rather awkward pedophile uncle or cousin that is a member of the KKK that the family would rather not like to talk about.

I would use that description for the "reboot" Battlestar Galactica too. Just changing some characters' gender (and race) and making damn near everyone psychotic and the ships filthy, does not make a show "deep" or "good."

Sounds like most shows these days. Instead of just entertainment with slight well-disuised references, they've become a brutal parodic reflection of the world we live in today.

No, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I have it in a dead heat with ENT for best ST series.

I'm just glad THE EXPANSE is returning.
