Item: Series 3

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Series 3 premieres December 5, 2022 (this coming Monday!). Episodes 1 and 2 air that day, with subsequent episodes releasing every Monday, two at a time, on HBO.

I tried to update the air dates for the episodes but they are locked.

The origin network of this series is BBC One. Consequently, the listed date should be the BBC One dates.

Technically, HBO is co-producer of the series along with BBC, and both share first run rights, BBC in the UK and HBO worldwide. The "first air date" should be the first time it airs in either.

The origin network is determined by the original broadcast of the complete series, this one took place on BBC One. After that, as long as BBC One continue to broadcast the series, all the dates listed should be the BBC One dates.

That objectively makes no sense

First is first no matter what

This is our rule.

It may the rule but it makes no sense. I think you should change it.

It would be a much bigger non sense to mix the dates from multiple networks for the same show.

How can I appeal your decision?

I have asked 2 other moderators to give their opinion here. You will have to wait for them to come.

But, the rule is clear : "Episodes should be added exactly as they first aired on the original network (title, date, order, season).". And here, BBC One is the network who has started first to broadcast this series (November 3, 2019 for BBC One against November 4, 2019 for HBO). Consequently, BBC One is the original network and all the dates should come from this network.

If the moderator decision stands, then the contribution bible should be updated to clarify the meaning of "original network". As it stands, in can be interpreted as the network (or video service) where the EPISODE originally aired, or even the season.

Personally, I would vote for the episode original date, even if the season changed networks or started airing on multiple networks.

A reference to the original network of the complete series is needed. There are multiple cases (not this one) where different networks broadcast episodes of the same series in different order, or even in different cut, which will result in a big mess if we just take in account the episode absolute first airdate.

I don't edit a lot of international co-productions like this one where episodes are airing in different countries (that are equal producing partners), on different networks, and on different dates but, as I understand the guidelines, the entry should follow the BBC One airdates for all seasons.

The information provided by this cannot be relied on. Your rules defy logic and common sense, and result in meaningless and objectively incorrect information. How is anyone supposed to use this site when it gives wrong answers to simple questions like "when's the next episode?"

I appreciate everyones' hard work but this is insane.

We don't give a wrong answer, but as we can only give one single answer, we always give the correct answer based on the network who have started broadcasting the series first, which here is BBC One.

If we list the HBO dates, you will not complain anymore, but the BBC One users will complain as they don't care that the episodes are already available on HBO as they can't see them and should wait for the BBC broadcast.

Taking in account that we can provide only one date per episode and can't please all the users, we have defined rules and follow them.

(By the way, TheTVDB also give BBC One dates for this).

With all of this ☝️ being said, can someone go ahead and add the rest of the airdates for the remaining episodes, since they're locked?
