The episode of Jughead's birthday was the least watched episode of "Riverdale" yet.
But it wasn't just that show that took a dive in the ratings but it's lead-in "Supernatural" did as well.
Despite low ratings though, "Riverdale" has been renewed for a 2nd season

I read an article that had a great theory on CW renewals. It said The CW has a different model for renewal. They look at ratings but not the numbers generally available but the ratings for a very narrow demo so not 18-49 but 18 to 29. They are also heavily influenced by social media and overall quality. Their Netflix deal is also a factor as they want to see how a show performs on Netflix before they kill it. Not sure how it got renewed, but I'm just glad I will get to spend more time in Riverdale.

I almost couldnt make it through that episode because Jughead ruined it. He's whiny and annoying. The worst character and if he's getting so much airtime he mustv have something to do with Jason's death. Supernatural is aND will always be in my top 5 faves!

I love Jughead. The character has birthday baggage that was not respected. Everyone hates it when the people they don't enjoy spending time with show up at their special occasion. That allowed me to forgive his attitude and annoying whining.

It's extremely easy to get renewed on CW. However, CW must be disappointed that "Riverdale" is not the big hit they expected it to be.

Generally during April/May the ratings go down on networks like The CW. It's already been renewed, so right now it's ratings for season 2 are what really is going to matter.

Very true and makes sense with ratings because of April spring breaks in most schools and may graduations

I'm hoping Riverdale picks up a lot of viewers as soon as the CW releases it to Netflix. Their agreement is unique in that the season goes there fast as early as 8 days after the season finale. Riverdale could be a big summer hit on Netflix and earn a lot of new fans.

I don't think it will pick up very many new viewers. But it will be safe running in the middle of the pack on CW.
