Next to the main characters Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) I read about the following characters from TGW who will join the spinoff TGF:

I'm a huge Good Wife fan and pretty excited about this one. The King's have been solid (did you catch BrainDead?)
Excited to see some cameos!

Oh, that's cool, Travis!
I'm also very excited; I was obsessed with The Good Wife for the first 5 to 6 years and watched every episode several times. I loved it so very much and was invested in so many details around this show on several different plattforms, especially on IMDb. Over there, I think I managed to update a whole thread about all scenes in which elevators were involved and many people probably thought I'm crazy.
Or, when Archie Panjabi resp. Kalinda said goodbye, I wrote an almost daily appreciation series with scenes of her on another plattform. So, yes, call me crazy about this show ...
Unfortunately, at the moment I'm not completely sure I can catch the spinoff in my country (I live in Berlin, Germany). You're lucky in Canada, because it looks like that "W Network" (whatever that is?) will broadcast it in your country (you are from there, right?). I'm looking forward to you-know-what-uploads-and-streams, but I'm not certain there will be any.
No, I didn't watch BrainDead, despite the fact that I really like Mary Elizabeth Winstead as an actress. It's a bit complicated; for me season 6 of TGW was a huge disappointment for several reasons and I stopped watching the TGW. I had this feeling that the Kings lost their way in season 6 and focused too much on Alicia and her story, but forgot almost all about the ensemble. I loved this show for the work the ensemble did, and I got frustrated along the run. I tried several times to begin season 7 and I was interested in BrainDead, too. But I had too many other things to watch and some things in my personal life that needed more attention. I read all the recaps of season 7, though, so I know what comes next and I'm really looking forward.
Yes, me too. Having Elsbeth and Judge Abernathy back is cool, and I'm excited to watch how they will bring back Matthew Perry's slimy character because I loved to hate this guy. I would love to see Kalinda again, but that won't happen. On the other hand, what I saw in the trailers about the new character Maia Rindell (Rose Leslie) looks quite interesting.
On that note, I have a question: Is there a limit for videos here on TMDb? I would like to add as many Youtube videos as I can find here:
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/69158-the-good-fight/videos
Are there any regulations to this I have to look out for? As long as I find the time, I'll update the infos for this show. But it depends on whether I can watch it or not?
Best wishes,
janar

I wouldn't say there's a limit per-say, but just make sure the content is marked under the proper category. The only other thing I'll mention is we only support official videos, no fan made stuff.

Was Josh Charles in the premiere? If so, I missed it. Did anyone else see him? If so, when did he pop up?

One time, he was in an "old" picture with Diane at this gala (was it her retirement party?). Diane glanced at this foto remembering him (around 15 min into the episode, shortly before the opening credits). I'm not sure this was an old foto - I guess they shot both of them together for this show, so it counts as a cameo.
The other time is to be determined - I only skipped through the episode and missed it. Maybe we should hire Kalinda to find it?

Do you need to have watched "The good wife" to enjoy / understand this show?

Me again, after watching both episodes. Josh Charles (Will Gardner) was in fact only in some photos during the premiere and not really in a scene, acting. Here are the two scenes in which Diane shows a reaction to him by kind of remembering the "good wife times":
I think the author of the article at "tv|line" refers to those 2 scenes. I wrote in my earlier post that this would count as a cameo - but I'm not sure about that anymore. I think it was interesting to see Diane's reaction - but Josh Charles didn't do anything in those scenes. And I wouldn't be surprised if this was some old footage from TGW times and not something new they shot for the spin off. I certainly don't recognize it myself, but it looks familiar.

That's hard to answer in general, I think.
On one hand, one of the creators of both shows, Robert King, said in a recent interview that you don't have to know anything about "The Good Wife" (TGW) to enjoy the spinoff. That's partly true, because this show revolved mainly around the character of Alicia Florrick, her job and family. And this character and (almost) all the drama around her won't come back at all in "The Good Fight" (TGF). The creators think about the spinoff as a new show which focuses mainly on 3 female characters and stories that, mostly, start very fresh and new:
I partly agree with the creators in this; for example, if you want to watch this new show because of Rose Leslie's character the answer is very easy: You don't need to know anything about TGW at all. Maia Rindell was never mentioned during 7 seasons of TGW; all stories about her are new.
On the other hand - and that's why I partly disagree with the creator's opinion: To understand Diane Lockhart and - to a certain degree - Lucca Quinn, it would be helpful to know them from TGW. Christine Baranski played her character for 7 years and certain nuances, behaviour, political opinions, rivalries and relationships with other characters are important to understand her now. For example, if you watch episode 1 of TGF, to understand the situation and the tension between Diane and Lucca, which results from something that happened in the past and involves Diane's husband Kurt, it would be very important to know about what had happened before.
If you have the time, there's a compromise you could consider: Just watch season 7 of TGW, the last season! The character Lucca Quinn was a new addition to season 7, so you'll know her whole story before going into watching TGF. And someone once wrote to me that it seemed the show started over with season 7 and felt very different in style and pace.
Just give it a try. And, of course, you could always come to this place and ask stuff. I hope some more people will join and discuss the new show, and we can certainly help with questions you have about TGW.
Best wishes,
janar

@janar72 Thank you for taking your time for such an elaborate answer. I think I have some idea about the show and I might give Season 7 a try. I am binge watching The Sopranos and The Wire atm, so watching whole show might be a little difficult. Usually I don't like watching shows from the middle but let's see. :)

You're welcome!
Actually, many people compared TGW to "The Wire" in certain aspects, but mostly because a lot of actors and actresses appear in both of these shows or make little appearances. TGW creator Robert King once said in an interview:
I hear you - binge watching several shows at the same time can be very exhausting and confusing. But it might be fun for you to watch all seasons of TGW after you're done with "The Wire"? Although, I never watched "The Wire", so I can't really say if it's worth it to watch these shows for comparison ...

@janar72 :
Thank you for posting when those scenes occur. I don't consider pictures to be cameos personally which is why I didn't think of them. Still a good episode whether he had a cameo or not!

Was really looking forward to TGF but after watching the first 2 episodes I'm a bit disappointed. I loved the first seasons of TGW but over time kind of grew tired of Alicia (season 6&7), so the idea of a spin-off without her sounded great. Unfortunately, so far I just don't really care about the characters, especially Maia...

You're welcome! I agree with you, those pictures were not "real" cameos and the writer at "tv|line", Michael Ausiello, hyped it up for no reason. I didn't have the time to read recaps after the 2 episodes aired, yet. But from all these other (p)reviews I read before he was the only one who mentioned Josh Charles. That should've been a warning to me ...
On the other hand: I would love to find out when/where this photo with Diane/Christine and Will/Josh was shot! Perhaps you remember: In season 5 of TGW, when Kalinda was looking through Will's personal stuff in his office before she gave all of it to his family, she took one of the photos out of the box and put it in her orange notebook. Here is a picture of this scene with the photo:

It turned out that this particular photo wasn't taken on the set showing the characters Kalinda/Will. It was one from an TGW event showing the whole cast of TGW, and they just cropped it out for the show to display them together (fans noticed it at first because Archie has her hair down in this photo, but Kalinda never did that before season 6, episode 8):
http://pics.wikifeet.com/Christine-Baranski-Feet-356172.jpg
I wonder if that happened here with Diane/Christine and Will/Josh - if they took an old photo and put it into the show?
Yeah, it was a good episode. But, to be honest, I'm also a bit disappointed, with both epsiodes actually. Don't get me wrong, I liked most of it and I want to find out what's next? I'm particularly interested in the set up of a firm with mainly black people working on cases that are quite different for someone like Diane. The King's didn't get those episodes and situations right sometimes; I especially remember that episode from season 6 in which Alicia talked with Frank Prady about racism in a kitchen full of people who didn't get a chance to be heard and get involved. So that's something I'm really looking forward; also, how the relationships will work between characters - I have a feeling it will be more about the ensemble than one single person, which is what I love to watch.
But - there were things I didn't like in these first 2 episodes. Both cases of the week were not very interesting, and both "resolutions" at the end were quite forgetable. They can better, and I hope it will be. Also, those 2 guys with their computer algorithms - why? And I have to say that I have some problems adjusting to Leslie Rose playing Maia. I think I never saw the actress in anything else before (never watch GOT and DA), but it seemed to me she was a bit overacting in certain situations. There were moments in which she was very good - at the end of the first episode, for example. However, in episode 2, when she was in court before
Mr. Beard-in-SunglassesJudge Abernathy - that was cringeworthy. I'm aware that's part of her character right now because it's all new to her and because of the scandal. But it was too much in certain moments for me.There are some more things - but I don't want to babble forth and on and on ...
It was a good start, but not brilliant, in my opinion.

janar
