The homage to Star Trek is WAY too pronounced. It gives the impression that it is a spoof of Star Trek, and spoofs are supposed to be funny. This show is, at best, amusing, but NOT particularly funny, in the way a Mel Brooks-like spoof would be, which seems to be intention. It's honestly, kind of a more "real" Star Trek, with people reacting the way real people would react, and real people can be funny. Wanting to know if the egg came out of his ass is absolutely something real people would be talking amongst themselves about.

Kind of reminds me of Doctor Who in terms of a somewhat lighthearted and fun tone, mixed with drama. That works for Doctor Who, but it works because it's original and doesn't essentially force you to draw comparisons. They could have easily toned the homage down, I think with much better effect.
