Discuss The Orville

So in the last episode the landing party was told that they would need something called "money" to use as this planet was capitalist. So by the time of the Orville has humanity advanced beyond money ? money_mouth Or are they commies !

They probably use a 'credit' system that would be accessed with their identity cards? Like in so many Sci-Fi scenarios/movies/novels, etc.?

Commies.

I had this discussion on a Star Trek whatever board.

Picard very pompously explains that the Federation doesn't use money. Completely ignoring the minors who had to deal with the Horta, Harry Mud, Cyrano Jones and lest we forget the Ferengi.

Now I can accept that The Union is not the Federation but at some point they will discuss money. (Even if it's not paper.)

Unless they have a barter system or are hunter/gatherers there has to be some kind of currency.
