There have been complaints that the humor in The Orville is inappropriate, out of place, jarring, etc. But if it's to be compared to original Star Trek, much of the humor there seemed far more out of place. For example, at the end of "The Changeling," after Nomad has destroyed planets/whole solar systems, etc, Kirk is making a joke about "My son, the doctor." Similar at the end of "The Doomsday Machine." And there are others.

To me a lot of the 'humor' was puerile.
I was glad to see the 'dick' jokes cease.
I was expecting some crudeness because he can't help himself.
I do not watch his other shows because of the crudeness.
Hopefully the 2nd season will be more 'mature'.

Well, Star Trek didn't often have inappropriate jokes right in the middle of a situation. Putting the stuff about "My son, the doctor" about Nomad or "I found one quite sufficient" about the doomsday machine, at the very end of the episode, isn't quite as jarring.
It's probably more realistic to have a bit of running humor, though. That's how people really are, even if we're not used to seeing it on TV.

I didn't like Star Trek until 'Next Generation', I thought the original was hokey (like early Doctor Who). So I can't really speak to the 'humor'.

Ah, you're just too young, that's all. "Hokey" should be reserved for "Lost In Space."

Best I've seen since "Star Trek Continues (2013-2017)".
@bratface: I'll post this on the Star Trek (1966) board and link back to here.

So funny. "Captain the the Easter Bunny's 'wessel' is on board"! The kid that plays the captain is better than Shatner.
Although I wasn't expecting the musical interludes.

I didn't find any of the jokes in "The Orville" reallly funny, perhaps because they were so "Seth Macfarlane" inappropriate.
Still quite entertaining to watch (as some of his other shows).

You mean like in a bit of a Family Guy episode I happened to see (by accident, I never TRIED to watch the show) where the (teenage?) daughter has a package of hot dogs and she says that she's going to her room to pretend they're a baseball team?

Okay, but I don't remember anything quite that inappropriate in any episode of The Orville.

Off color, classless, puerile humor is one thing, when it is targeted to specific members of the crew (the aliens) it becomes something else entirely.
Oh and before you start to make comments about who is targeted by the humor in TO, I suggest you re-watch some episodes and do some cataloging!

Fortunately it doesn't go to those extremes.
Although the following scene could've easily been in a cutaway with Quagmire saying "Giggity, giggity, goo."
Peter Griffin/Seth MacFarlane hates The Orville?
