Discuss Gonul

OK, from all I could read about this, I don't see more than 38 episodes mentioned. IMDB only shows 13 episodes, so it must not be up to date.

3rd comment. I am caught up on The Blacklist now, I've seen the first 5 episodes of season 7. I think Red is sick with something, not sure about that though.

Anyway, let me know what is happening with Behzat. I will check it out tomorrow.

I am on Ep 19 or somewhere around there. I don't know what developments you have seen so it is hard to comment. Harun started stuffing his face again - I thought it was too good to be true - the Director came in and told him to lose 20 pounds - I thought you could easily double that. Now after a sly trick on Eda and a final brush off he has found himself a Russian hostess called Larissa. She knows he is a cop so it remains to be seen if she will try and con him or worse. Yet more incredible violence against women shown - this show is NOT a good advert for Turkey. His brother has found the man who paid the journalist to frame Behzat with the bribe - it never says just how he did it. Have you noticed that people are forever coming into his office and saying "they found so and so in wherever and they have arrested him" or "they have found the body" or "they know where he is going" no explanations how they could do any of that in a city that size and congested. In on episode we have a young man who follows a political activist and shoots him in the back of the head ( yeah - there is no shortage of brave heroes in Turkey) then he runs away. He wears a distinctive white beanie hat - which of course is totally necessary if you don't want to be noticed. At one point Ghost follows him in a taxi - the beanie gets out and starts walking down a crowded street - whereupon Ghost gets out of his taxi and the cab driver who is sympathetic to a guy who shoots somebody he disagrees with - toots his horn. This is enough for Beanie to immediately take off running without even turning around. I mean nobody toots their horn in a busy city do they - it must have been a warning - even if he had no idea he was being followed. I am getting tired of Behzat and his gang getting out of situations it would be impossible for them to get out of. Sule now has a part time job as his brothers assistant - he has paid her half her salary in advance. The writers don't seem to think there is anything creepy about two much older men looking after a very young girl who is a total stranger to them. Feride is determined to confess and is creating problems for the keystone cops. Oh and Cevnet (or similar) has had his hair cut and is still secretly talking to Harun's sister.

It really makes me wonder about the Turkish people that this show was so popular there. I could see a show like Ezel, Gonul, or even Kacak being popular. But this show is mostly idiotic people shouting, cursing, and slapping women hard across the face. Behzat goes crazy every so often. They all get so angry and out of control. I keep thinking of that psychologist and his assessment that men who get angry are respected in Muslim cultures. Maybe that has something to do with why the show was popular. I think I was on episode 15 when I left off so I better switch back to Behzat and catch up with you.

What is the point of these fashion shows where models wear stuff that nobody would ever wear in real life? They wear some of the most weird looking stuff. Why? Who would ever buy it? Harun was flustered by the girls breasts. He asked her how she liked Ankara and she said not much after this, meaning the malfunction and then the murder. He couldn't take his eyes or his mind off her breasts so he told the captain to interview her. He asked why he couldn't and all he could think of was to say she was depressed because of Ankara. His mind was still flustered by her breasts. He is a big child.

I'm confused about something. I thought Ghost found and spoke to the husband some time back, but Feride just said she killed and buried her husband. So I guess he must have been talking to some other alcoholic who didn't want to go home, but heard someone was interested in his wife. Odd coincidence. Yeah, I just saw a flashback which shows her husband, and it's not the guy I saw him talking to. And also, she buried him in the yard of their old house. lol So the 3 stooges dug him up and put him in the trunk. Behzat caught them at it and had to help them bury it elsewhere, in the common grave area. And someone from the bushes took pictures of them praying over the grave, and probably the whole burial as well. You know that was likely someone working for Ecrumen or whatever his name is. They will use those photos to blackmail them later on, I am sure. Feride confessed, not knowing they had moved the body. That puts them all in danger of losing their jobs. Ghost got her to withdraw her confession; I didn't know you could just do that. What do you say? oops, sorry, slip of the tongue, I meant to say my husband is dead to me because he is a drunk who never comes home.

I've seen Huran's blond Russian girlfriend. Vulture knocked him out since he was so drunk he wouldn't listen to them. I don't recall Huran being such a dunce in the first episodes, but he is childish and stupid now, and not just when he is drunk.

I am nearing the end of episode 17 now. I have some projects I need to work on today though so I won't binge ahead. I have a wooden deck on the back of the house, decades old. One of the supports is loose. I am jacking the studs up with an 8 foot piece of 4 x 4 lumber and will support it with bricks. In the spring I am going to replace some of the boards which are getting very weathered in places. When I do that I will take a better look at the main support board, a piece of 2 x 12. If it is too far gone I will deal with it then. But for now I can do a temporary fix with the 4 x 4 support. The deck is not in danger of collapsing, but that support piece is coming loose from the post it is nailed to and that section is sagging a couple of inches. This fix will keep everything where it is until I get a chance to do a better repair. Where the board has sagged I may have to cut through the nails. Pushing it up with the bent nails still there won't work and may stress the wood. Anyway, there are several sunny days predicted so I need to work on this now.

Good luck with the woodwork!! That guy Ghost was talking to was definitely about Feride - there was nobody else with a drunken husband who had left her. This show cares nothing for continuity - that's why I said in one of my posts that I thought I was having hallucinations. I also wonder just how that - I assume - journalist knew exactly when they were going to dig up the corpse - followed them without being seen at any point - and hovered in the bushes with his camera with Vulture about two feet away from him. I also wonder why they would leave a bit of blanket in the grave - knowing that it was evidence - (they are cops after all - aren't they?) and how after six months under ground in all weathers they had enough DNA to make a comparison and with whom. Feride is three cans short of a sixpack - but never mind - this is Behzat - she will get away with it because Esra is sympathetic to her. She should have asked her how she managed to pick up a big man - take him out to a car she didn't have - dig a six foot by four foot hole in the ground and carry him from the trunk to the gravesite and chuck him in - then drive (can she drive?) home - and where was Alican her son when all this was going on. All they have on the keystone cops is that they moved a body and reburied it - still - I think interfering with a corpse is probably grounds for dismissal if you are a police officer. In real life they would all be toast. Why do they have to make Cevdet and Selim such incompetent idiots - so stupid they can't find a street - is this Turkish humour? Oh - and to change the subject briefly - Red - syringe - so why was there a big patch of blood on the pavement - I thought he had been stabbed. I haven't seen it any further than that yet. That "fashion" show - it was more like an audition for Star Trek !! How ridiculous did they all look? And they are still dancing that ridiculous way on that miniscule stage - why do the women look so old and tarty on that stage? It looks like that guy (Oh God - these Turkish names) Ercominget or something similar - the one that paid the accountant to plant the bribe story and who killed that girl with a hammer to the face - is going to be like a Moriarty returning villain for a while.

I missed the part where he was told to lose weight, and yeah, he needs to get ahead of that before he turns into the Pillsbury Dough-boy. He needs therapy also, and a brain implant, to give him some brains. He thought tricking her into going to the movies with him would win her over, and thought she was too dumb to figure it out. Then he went into high drama mode telling her how unfair it was that she isn't attracted to him. Does he want socialism on a personal level? It's not fair that she likes another guy and doesn't like him, she has to like him also!. Wow. "Give me ONE chance. Won't you give me one chance?" Hooray for Eda. She didn't cave to his idiotic plea, she didn't feel guilty or that she was not being fair to him. What the hell? Harun thinks she is obligated to give him a chance. hahaha. "No" she said. So he found the blond and gets drunk and dances with her. What a child. Serkat, or whatever, hired Sule to hop around in her size 50 puff shoes and act ditzy, thinking he was doing a good deed. Yes, I have to wonder why the people get upset if a man comes around a woman's house, or looks at a woman in the market, but they don't bat an eye at a young girl living with Behzat. They went to see the guy who set up Behzat with the bribe and found out who paid him. Behzat's brother Serkat (?) had his obligatory dramatic, angry, freak out.

The writers contrive all manner of impossible situations for our 'hero' Behzat and his rag tag band of misfit dectectives to have to work their way out of. It's hard to get anxious about his fate. After he killed a man in custody and the higher ups covered it up for him (because he is such a good detective we can't let a little thing like murdering a suspect sideline him) I don't care what happens to him. I know somehow they will get him out of it. The thing with Feride's husband, the reburial, and the pictures of same, is just another contrived thing that he will find his way out of.

Harun will go bananas once he finally catches Cevdet talking to his sister. When Harun talks to a girl, there is nothing wrong with it, and she is a great girl. But if his sister talks to a guy, this is dishonorable. jeeez

Red. No, it was a syringe full of ketamine, a horse tranquilizer also used for people. I didn't notice the blood. Could it have been water, or a shadow? I may have to go back and look at that. Anyway, Katarina has become VERY paranoid. And Lizzie finally told the team that Red isn't really Red, but a Russian spy who became Red to use the money to protect her while hiding from the Soviets. So now that secret is out. I'll stop there.

Keystone cops is a good comparison for this gang. The writers must have decided to make them act this way to a- make Behzat seem highly competent by comparison, and b- make it easy to contrive ways to create problems for Behzat to have to get out of. Mind you, he does a fine job of that all by himself. In real life he would have been sacked and jailed several times by now. But with this group of stooges as his team Behzat seems like Sherlock Holmes by comparison. Well Sherlock with anger issues, drinking problems, mental problems, and a volatile personal life. But nevertheless, he is just invaluable to the Ankara police department. I imagine he could punch his boss and still keep his job, after a good scolding.

another update, episode 17. woman beating and Feride's arrest

Feride breaks down easily under questioning. Ghost should have seen that coming. Of course, once she gave the initial statement, I couldn't see how she would get out of that.

Behzat is a tough guy when he questions suspects. "How did she get the burns?" Answer: "I don't know". Behzat: "I'll fuck you in the mouth". Answer: "God forbid!"

I'd say that qualifies as coercion, wouldn't you? But if that were not enough, Behzat kicks the suspect in the chin and knocks him to the sloor. Switch to Huran punching another suspect. Switch to Behzat is punching the guy on the floor. Switch to Huran threatening his suspect that he has one chance to talk before he makes him talk, and punching him again to make his point. Switch back to Behzat continuing to punch his suspect on the floor. All the while Feride is talking to the prosecutor. Behzat must be getting a bit tired now from punching the man on the floor. Feride describes her brutal treatment to Esra and her daily fear of beatings. Huran's man, Nuri, is talking now. Perhaps Behzat's man would talk if he ever stopped punching him in the face, we don't know. Huran's man calmly explained why he beat the woman who told his wife about the women's shelter, as though anyone would understand why he had to beat her for that. Huran, in one of the rare moments when one can understand his actions, struck the man in the face, knocking him to the floor, and instructed him to stand up (so he would not need to bend down to continue beating him). Then he invited the man to try beating him instead of a woman.

See, this is what we mean when we call men who beat women cowards. We feel enraged at them. We want them to try to beat us the way they beat women so we can thoroughly bruise and break them, make them whimper and cry and beg for mercy. But they're not so tough when it's a fair contest so they won't try. So we have to beat them anyway. We want to punish them, and to put the fear of God into them, or at least the fear of death by beating. We want to give them a lasting memory of pain and fear of death before we shout into their ears to be thankful that we are showing them mercy by not giving them what they deserve, and promising that if they do it again, we won't be this nice to them the next time. There is a feeling of contempt for them that flushes us with rage as we picture them beating a woman, and acting like a tough guy as they do it. We want to take that tough guy image of themselves away from them. We want them to feel small, we want them to hate themselves. and we need to hear them repent. Honestly, if someone hurt my sister I don't know how far I would go in beating them.

Now Ghost is questioning the man they saved from being beaten on the street. This man is talking without coercion. He says Mehmet killed the woman, Nerma. Feride describes a self defense killing as Esra gets the news that there is DNA evidence on the piece of blanket. Of course it will belong to her husband.

Huran continues beating his suspect, now for over-pricing his tomatoes. Once he gets on a roll, you just can't stop him. Soon he will ask him why he mismatched his socks and slug him again. No, he wants to know why he killed Nerma. The tomato gouger says he doesn't know. He mentions God so Huran hits him again for that. Huran must be really furious. He even threw a piece of food at him. When has he ever thrown away any food?

Huran and Behzat discuss their beating sessions. "did he talk?" "He sort of moaned through his broken jaw, so I broke his nose." "Still resisting, eh?" (OK, I made that part up)

Some of the translations are not very good, I agree about that too. For example, Behzat says to Mehmet: "You didn't give the carpet to a customer. What's her name?" That sounds odd. What is the name of the person you didn't give the carpet to? If he didn't give the carpet to anyone, then the answer would be "everybody", wouldn't it?

Anyway, the carpet had blood stains on it. Mehmet says she was gone when he woke up and thinks she went to see Erhan. Behzat says she went to see Meral. Tell me how you killed her, Fucktard! They went home. He thought she wouldn't run again. (Because she liked the beatings?) He repeats he went to sleep and she was gone when he woke up. He heard the door close so he got up and followed her. She was waiting for someone. He remembered what he had heard about Erhan and believed they were going to meet. So, instead of waiting to catch his wife cheating on him, he went ahead and killed her. You know, to save time. A car stopped and Meral got out, waited, and then left. [So he missed out on a chance to beat another woman. He probably expects some sympathy for his bad luck.] Now he says he was afraid. Yeah, he was tough before, but now he is afraid. He called his friend Nuri to come help him hide from his crime. They wrapped Nerma's body in a carpet and carried it near Erhan's home and dumped it there.

Of course, this is why Mehmet and Nuri and their friends were beating up Erhan on the street, to shift blame and public sentiment onto Erhan, so he could hide from what he did.

This is another reason why I hate Islam; that whole culture which justifies beating women, making them second class citizens, and justifies killing them if they "dishonor" the husband, her family, his family, etc. I also hate the liberals who defend Islam and intentionally ignore these horrible abuses it justifies. They're supposed to be concerned with women, these liberals, but they are perfectly willing to sacrifice women for political power.

I give high marks to Behzat on his creative curses. He called Mehmet and Nuri "cockbiting fucktards". that is a new one to me.

Esra has sympathy for Feride, but has to forward the case to the judge nonetheless. She did her best to shield Ghost and the others from complicity by hiding the body.

I have just finished ep 19 - in which they have discovered the bug in the coffee machine - replaced it - and stood around it saying there was a hidden camera in the accountant's office - but it's too late to go tonight so they will go first thing tomorrow to search for it. Fairly blatant but there you go. They go to the accountants office with beer and light a candle because it is so dark - they don't seem to notice the daylight streaming in from the windows. They drink and laugh and talk - you could probably hear them from the street. Behzat turns up followed shortly by a little fat guy who is captured in the most ridiculously unconvincing manner. Excrement has paid a street gang to pay him to look for the camera. Enter a hooker to give Excrement a massage which he doesn't want - he wants her to accidentally meet the guy who wont back out of the tender he wants to win - "don't go there looking like a hooker" he says - "I am not a hooker" the woman in the tight short dress and fake fur bolero says and turns up looking like - well - a hooker - at the old guys hotel. He takes the bait and a Viagra. Excrement is let in by the girl whilst Ghost waits outside his hotel having no idea that hotels have back entrances. The old guy told Excrement that he is the only one he respects so Excrement has decided against killing him. I don't know if you have seen this episode so I will shut up about this plot line. Harun - yeah - I know - he had to enter the dialogue somewhere - he is as stupid as he is overweight - he is totally besotted by Larissa and he is buying her very expensive dresses which he puts on his credit card - typing in his pin in as she watches him. He now realises that he is 4000 lira in debt - 2000 of which he has to pay immediately. But never mind - he decides to go to the nightclub and have another dance - I am surprised that tiny stage doesn't collapse every time he gets on it. After a lot of messing about he borrows 140 lira of some such amount from Ghost and Vulture and eventually Behzat finds out he is in debt and sells something to help him out - Hanrun lies to him and says it's for his sister - Gonul (GONUL!!) tells Behzat that the girl is a gold digger and that is why Hanrun needs the money - so Behzat does what he does best and picks up a baseball bat and goes looking for Hanrun. I mean Larissa knows Hanrun is a cop - why would she play him for a fool (don't answer that!) Ghost visits Feride in prison - geez - I wouldn't like to spend time in a Turkish prison - when people visit the prisoners are in a tiny room with a tiny barred window and no seating. Still nothing happening with the pictures of the three of them in the graveyard - I am thinking those will turn up when she goes to trial. That's the major elements I think. Changing the subject - I have just read that four human rights groups are taking MI5 to court because they use criminal methods to track and bring down criminals and organisations - has the world gone mad? Why don't these organisations just admit that they are criminal support groups in the pay of enemies of the state. If you are fed up with Behzat I don't mind if you want to watch something else.

It is sort of like watching an accident happen in slow motion. It's not really something you want to see, but you can't stop watching. Like the potato chips of TV. But I may look around a little bit and see if there is something else. Even if I find something better, I might want to come back to this later, after I have had a break. It is really not so bad since I cut the sound off. When the sound is on, the constant diet of loud angry voices, shouting, wears on me after a while. And Huran especially. His is an angry, stupid shouting voice.

I don't mind - I tend to do the same - watch the odd film etc. The trouble is that when you have watched so many episodes and they are so long anyway you tend to get to know the characters and have a curiosity about what happens to them!! I think Behzat will headbutt somebody once too often and end up with brain damage - I reckon this could explain Hanrun also!!

So episode 19 starts with a long review of the previous episode, after they find the bug from the coffee machine. So I will see all you were telling me about.

It is hard for me to imagine someone like Huran, Moron, working as a detective. I can see him issuing parking tickets, but that is about all he should be trusted to handle on his own.

I suddenly realized I needed to run to the store, out of milk for my coffee. lol Anyway, I am back now and getting into episode 19. Yes, I don't really want to bail out on the show at this point. I know the characters now and have an interest in seeing the way things turn out. I suspect that along the way we will find out that Berna didn't commit suicide, and once Bezat figures that out, he will be a holy terror.

comment number 2.

I was expecting Huran to run into deep debt very soon. He already took a loan and is making payments for his dad's fine. Now he is making payments on a dress he cannot afford. And he lacks the character to say no when he goes beyond his means, if a lady is involved. He really must have low self esteem. Not sure if I am repeating myself or not here. Huran must suspect he is stupid, but lacks the self awareness to know this for sure. But his main issue is a defect in character. And of course his anger issues. I fear the person who is stupid and angry about it, you know, they are likely to blame you for their own stupidity, their shortcomings, etc. He acts like a person who didn't learn to delay gratification, to deny himself pleasure in the short term in order to greatly improve his life later on.

And I don't like the way Bezat treats him like a son. Like a spoiled son, a son who has been shielded from facing responsibility. A slap on the back of the head isn't much consequence, especially to someone like Huran. He doesn't mind at all if that is the worst he will face for breaking his word repeatedly.

I guess Huran is bugging me.

comment 3 , episode 20

Mr. Metin, the man who tried to bribe Bezat and set him up to look like he was bribed. Excrement must have bugged his office too because he knew Metin gave up his name under questioning. So he cut his throat. I am not sure about Excrement. I thought he was gay because of what he said to the first guy we saw him kill. But I think he has been with some women romantically, but I could be wrong on that. He didn't have sex with the three hookers he ordered, he just beat them. Maybe he hates women. I'm sure we will find out his story eventually. You're right, he does seem like the kind of bad guy they are going to keep in the plot for a long time.

Bezat ought to take it easy with Excrement. He is connected to the undersecretary and he can get bezat fired or sent to prison with a simple phone call. But that isn't how they will play the story. They want him to play with fire every minute.

Naturally Moron asked Bezat if he should arrest Excrement without any evidence of wrongdoing. He was ready to go until the Capt told him No. Now two people have given descriptions of a fat bald man running from the office building, and the secretary gave them a name. So Excrement has paid them off, and has another patsy to take the fall for him.

Bezat sold the car he bought for Berna to get money for Moron. Moron spent money for beer to drink at the stake out. He really should get demoted if not fired. He is extraordinarily awful. It will be Now Excrement has hired a woman for....beating? No. I wonder what his particular bent is. So he doesn't want sex with the hot girl. I see what he wanted the girl for now.

Why did he ask for an arrest warrant for Excrement from the prosecutor? He didn't arrest him for a murder committed right in front of him when he had the chance, because of the photos. So how will he arrest him now? Shithead still has the photos.

Oh crap. Feride told the truth in court. Homicide bureau is screwed. Excrement paid to take care of her son if she would tell on them. Bezat is lying to Esra. Now he tells her women want to blame the whole world. And he dares Excrement to send the photos, and they show up at Esra's door. Now how do they get out of this? Bezat acts like he is stupid. He knew the photos would be sent. He lied to the prosecutor Esra. He had to know he would get busted for it. And all of this because he didn't do the right thing when he found them with the body.

Larissa is winding up Huran now. He is going to spend money on her again. Yep, he is back at the club. Getting back in debt just as he is about to be fired. What an idiot. And a team of cops comes and grabs him before he can get laid. LOL And he is embarrassed when he has to empty his pockets and pulls out a box of condoms.

Excrement whistles the theme to the Godfather as he cooks fish at a restaurant. He outsmarted the detectives, but that wasn't hard to do. bezat practically arrested himself. What could they do besides work as cops? They could remake "The Three Stooges". So how will they get out of this? Maybe Feride will tell the court she was paid to say it was the detectives by Excrement and get him in trouble while exonerating the detectives.

Now they are digging the location where they reburied the body. Did someone move it again?Apparently. Who did that I wonder. Ah, Behzat had them switch bodies and put Excrement's murder victim there. So he had a plan all along, and all of them knew about it, but acted like they didn't.

He spun a good lie to get out of that one.

Now he is free to go after Excrement again.

Istanbul. The idiots are looking for shithead. I have to fast forward through much of this. I don't want to watch Moron trying to buy rubbers in the men's room. We see way too much of him. He shoots a pistol into the ceiling of a bank they go inside. He really is a big idiot and they write too much of him into the script Bezat hallucinates his daughter while in the bank. Suddenly he wakes up in bed. I don't know what the hell is going on now.

Suddenly the four dorks of homicide are in a gymnasium threatening Excrements lackey Kilic for information on his location. The scenes are jumping around without making sense. The guy in the editing room must have been smoking crack. Moron tries to make small talk with a girl who looks at him like he is a loser. At the meeting place the four idiots sit right out in the open so Excrement can see them as he approaches. Naturally. So he gets away, and he kills his lackey Kilic.

Bezat catches Excrement in one of his offices.

The team finds out Moron tells the Russian girl Larissa EVERYTHING. Huran really is a moron. Larissa cries and tells him she cannot leave the club because she owes 3000 lira. Moron gives her all his mother's gold bracelets and she takes off. Bezat finally gives him a beating. Moron admits he knew she was lying but gave her the bracelets anyway because he wanted her to say she loved him. Yeah, I said it before. He wants to be loved. He should have paid a hooker to tell him that. It would have been cheaper.

Just a quick piece of info before I watch the episode - it turns out Bezat didn't sell the car - well - he sorta did - but got it back - after the guy had driven a few yards with it. He then went to the jewellers and sold the ring he bought for Bizarre - he took a loss of 1000 on it. Bizarre saw Resnat stealing a DVD and told Behzat who told Sevret who went bonkers. Resnat isn't punished - not even grounded for a month - he is just reassured that his parents are not getting divorced. I had a little wonder whether Sevret is fancying Bizarre - but he loves Behzat too much to hurt him in that way - maybe if he was sure that Behzat didn't care anything for her he would chance his arm - maybe if Behzat left GONUL! and got into a relationship with Esra it would seem possible to him. Moron - what can you say about him - I cannot see how anyone of his intelligence or fitness could ever be employed by any police force - he is a heart attack waiting to happen. I am not really looking forward to the episode you describe - if the editing is so bad it - as the saying goes - does my head in. It confuses me enough with the way they expect us to believe that Feride could have managed to move her hulk of a husband and transport him to a site which is obviously a long way away and dig a hole more than deep enough to bury him. These are questions that would be asked at her trial - how is she going to answer? And Excrement - he is going to do that perennial favourite of cop shows - he is going to engage Behzat in a personal game of cat and mouse - he is a sadistic psychopath who is probably bisexual - he will have to be punished personally by Behzat. I watch the surrounding "actors" a lot because it amuses me to see how dreadful they all are - the girls can't walk past a camera without looking at it with a self conscious stupid smile on their faces and the guys continually shoot sideways looks at the camera - they are incapable of ignoring it. This production is really quite amateur by Western standards - it has a kind of awful fascination to see what they are going to do wrong next!!
