福家警部补（檀丽 饰）是搜查一课强行犯十三系系长石松和夫（稻垣吾郎 饰）麾下的刑警，她打扮普通老土，看起来总是一副迷迷糊糊颠三倒四的模样，但是却有着极强的推理分析能力，和一旦抓住线索便死咬住绝不松口的劲头，以致于石松系长和许多同僚都对她唯恐避之不及。许多时候，得不到援手的福家只能独自展开调查，而此时鉴定科的二冈友成（柄本时生 饰）便成为鞍前马后为她收集资料和证物的忠犬。为了掩饰罪行，罪犯们用尽各种办法制造假象和不在场证明，试图逃脱法律的制裁。而在此之前，他们不得不面对福家警部补这个难缠的对手…… 　　本片根据大仓崇裕的同名推理小说系列改编

講述主角福家對警察組織關係全無興趣，只對查案有感，以敏銳觀察力及不斷追問解開謎團，劇集還會像《古畑任三郎》那樣一開始就講明犯人是誰然後倒敘故事。

福家將會以類似「女版古畑」的打扮出現，其上司石松警部(稲垣吾郎)是個認真的警察，對組織及規律高度重視，是個絕不妥協的堅實警察。他以查案要正面進攻為信條，和無視他的指示擅自以奇怪方法查案又立功的福家又愛又恨，組成水溝油的拍檔。

Assistant Inspector Fukuie does not look like an assistant inspector but once she starts an investigation, she takes no notice of anyone as she searches for the key to find out the truth. She does not care for the hierarchical relationship of the organisation or career advancement. If she has doubts, she will not listen to her superior and will persist in investigating to the end. Fukuie’s boss Inspector Ishimatsu is completely different from her. He places importance on the organisation and discipline, is rigid and strait-laced. Ever since Fukuie became his subordinate, his pride has been in tatters because she loves to disregard his instructions and investigate on her own even though this eventually results in success and he gets credit for her achievements. His principle is to investigate using orthodox methods, but the results that Fukuie delivers goes against this and makes him feel ashamed.

Fukuie ne ressemble pas à une inspectrice, mais une fois qu'elle commence une enquête, elle révèle son talent en cherchant la clé pour découvrir la vérité. Elle ne se soucie pas de la relation hiérarchique de l'organisation ni de l'avancement professionnel. L'inspecteur Ishimatsu, le patron de Fukuie, est complètement différent d'elle. Il accorde de l'importance à l'organisation et à la discipline. Il est démuni face à Fukuie qui ignore ses instructions et enquête par elle-même.Ses méthodes orthodoxes se confrontent aux résultats de Fukuie.

檀れいが民放連続ドラマで初主演を務める刑事ドラマ。完全に周囲からは浮いている人間ながら、推理能力は並外れており、他の人間は気付かない事件解決の糸口を見つけることができる警部補・福家(檀)と、彼女とは全く違ったタイプの堅物警部・石松(稲垣吾郎)、そして犯人たちの攻防を描く。ほか、鑑識係・二岡を柄本時生が演じる。
