講述雙親患病的兒童心理司冰崎游子（松雪），高中教師巢藤浚介（伊藤淳史），警部補馬見原光毅（遠藤憲一），面對事件引發三個家庭的潛在問題，帶出人類的深層心理。

东京都一隅，宁静的街道，一栋小楼，一户普通人家，在某一个特殊的日子到来之前也许它看起来和世界上任何家庭都没有什么不同。爸爸穿着西装去上班，妈妈操持家务，孩子也该穿着校服去上学、放学，最后一家人再团聚在这座叫做家的小楼里，生活看似可以永远这样过下去，但有时候偏偏不能。接连发生的家族灭门惨案，都是出自这样平淡无奇的普通人家，空气弥漫血腥气味，父母被绑在椅子上血流满地、重创而亡，孩子死在自己的房间里，安详、宁静，甚至带着一丝满足，留下的一张字条不约而同说着：体会到了真正的家庭之爱。虽然很残忍，但警察们不需要太麻烦就能得出结论：孩子杀死了父母，又因为太愧疚而自杀。几乎没有什么不对，只有一个叫马见原（远藤宪一饰）的警官嗅出每个现场都遗留的香甜气味，有个直觉在告诉他，这不是自杀，而是谋杀，是一场针对家族的狩猎。住在凶案现场附近的高中美术老师巢藤（伊藤淳史饰）偶然看到灭门的孩子生前抱着斧头阴狠的眼神，也看到过几次都出现在案发现场的女子——冰崎游子（松雪泰子饰），他隐约感觉这个女人不正常，马见原警官也是如此认为。游子是儿童关爱中心的员工，年过四十，憔悴、急躁，每天背着两个大包奔跑在城市的大街小巷救助被虐待的儿童，任何对儿童案件的懈怠都会让她瞬间暴躁起来。这一天她又救了一个被酗酒父亲虐待的小女孩，警察的消极应对让她失去耐心，她似乎太容易发怒，说话永远在喊叫，把桌子拍得砰砰作响，任何人都不放在眼里，她所到之处所有人都避之唯恐不及，对工作的偏执令她看起来像是个疯子。在福利中心门口，被救助的小女孩怨毒的一口唾沫毫不留情地喷到了她的脸上，就算被虐待，小女孩还是想等爸爸，对游子，她反倒满腔憎恨。因为家人为子女带来了痛苦，才会把他们剥离开来，这是游子认为正确的做法，但她自己的家人却剥离不开——老年痴呆十余年、经常走失的老父亲，沉溺小钢珠逃避家庭重担的母亲，虽然游子无数次也想要狠心把父亲送去养老院，但还是下不了决心

Hizaki Yuko is a child psychologist working at the Childcare Center. At work, her heart goes out to the children at the center. At home, she has to endure the grumblings of her mother, Tamiko, who is the sole caregiver of Seitaro, Yuko's father suffering from Alzheimer's. With the suffering of the children at work and the complaints of her mother at home, Yuko can hardly get any rest and peace of mind. Sudo Shunsuke is a teaching art at a high school, but the days just flow by aimlessly for him. He dreams of creating a masterpiece and have his talent recognized by the world. His girlfriend, Kiyooka Miho, is pressuring him to get married, but Shunsuke is reluctant to do so. One day, a crime takes place in Shunsuke's neighbor's apartment. The police had deemed it a murder-suicide, based on the suicide note left behind by the son, claiming that he had killed his grandfather and parents. Detective Mamihara Koki feels there is more to it, as the brutality of the parents' murder seems uncharacteristic of the child perpetrator. He decides to pursue the case further, and soon, Shunsuke and Yuko are unwittingly pulled into the investigations.

Hizaki Yuko est une psychologue pour enfants qui travaille au Childcare Center. Au travail, son cœur va aux enfants du centre. À la maison, elle doit endurer les grognements de sa mère, Tamiko, qui est l'unique soignante de Seitaro, le père de Yuko souffrant de la maladie d'Alzheimer. Avec la souffrance des enfants au travail et les plaintes de sa mère à la maison, Yuko ne peut guère se reposer et avoir l'esprit tranquille. Sudo Shunsuke est un enseignant d'art dans un lycée, mais les jours passent sans but pour lui. Il rêve de créer un chef-d'œuvre et de voir son talent reconnu par le monde entier. Sa petite amie, Kiyooka Miho, fait pression sur lui pour qu'il se marie, mais Shunsuke hésite à le faire. Un jour, un crime a lieu dans l'appartement du voisin de Shunsuke. La police avait jugé qu'il s'agissait d'un suicide car elle a retrouvé une lettre d'aveux laissée par le fils. L'inspecteur Mamihara Koki estime qu'il y a plus que cela, car la brutalité du meurtre des parents ne semble pas caractéristique d'un enfant. Il décide de poursuivre l'affaire et bientôt, Shunsuke et Yuko sont involontairement mêlés à l'enquête.
