Discuss Beecham House

This series follows the well trodden path of the lives of white people during the years of the Raj. It has a handsome hero - an estranged brother - unrequited love and betrayal by those close to him. Of course he finds a white love and ends up in a beautiful mansion with a successful career. Straight out of Mills and Boon. I find it strange that a white man would marry and Indian woman in that era - his brother balks at doing the same thing - his mother in real life - would be horrified that her son had not only married "a native" but had a child with her. She would not be so accepting as is made out here. The mansion also seems to be overstaffed with servants and totally lacking in any kind of security. Given that he has a baby he is supposed to protect at any cost - this seems very strange - I would not trust him to look after a gerbil. But he does not seem very bright - it took him forever to figure out who the betrayer was when it was obvious to all those around him. Not to mention that he gathers the family together to tell them his "secret" that must never be heard outside of this room - he doesn't bother to check if the room is secure and that nobody is listening - in a house full of servants? Both brothers have left the East India Trading Company which was virtually an invading military force working in league with the British government - it was military in set - up - so technically they are both deserters - but nobody seems to be looking for them and they aren't exactly low profile. It also seems strange that it is proving so difficult to find a white man -who attacked a French general and is wanted for attempted murder - in a city full of native people. All they have to do is offer a reward and he would be toast in ten minutes. Oh well - we now have to wait for the second series to see whether dumbo can figure out where he should look for that which is most precious to him.
