Discuss M*A*S*H

(Remember Mash never mentioned Kim ll Sung. He was the North Korean communist who totally began the Korean War.)

In one ep Charles helps a man who is stuttering. Here is what some viewers would feel very unrealistically. "Oh, Charles is really such a nice man. Despite his being a cold snob sometimes other times he is as nice as you can get."

Here is what some viewers would semi-realistically feel. "David Ogden -Stiers did a fine acting job as Charles. His character's kindness and snobbiness alike were both scripted to be sure but in real life he obviously could be this successful at being kind."

Here is the most realistic view. "The series Mash was highly well directed. All the actors usually came off great in their characterizations -- a sure sign it was superbly directed. Stiers, whom bloopers show, was NOT a Stanislavsky method actor so although he performs well thanks to the direction, other times he is very weak in the role. Also, we are uncertain he would be this good at being nice in real life as not only is Charles's kindness and snobbiness both scripted. But also scripted is the reaction of others to Charles's kindness."

The fans need the last view. Politically from a mental perspective the Mash creators were indeed very messed up and for the mass-murdering North Koreans in the war. Charles' scripted kindness adds to the illusion that the Mash actors could not possibly favor a brutally murderous communist regime like North Korea. But the actors do!
