Discuss M*A*S*H

( Kim ll Sung was a brutal mass-murderer who started the Korean War. He was leader of North Korea. He was never mentioned once on Mash!)

The character of Charles was scripted. I play a guitar repeating that verse over and over! In one tenth season ep he owed money to Sgt. Rizzo of the motor pool. Charles refers to Rizzo as a "Bayou bloodsucker". Charles is a major. Why was he not scripted to pull some sort of rank on the sgt. to stop bloodsucking for money at interest? That shows Charles is a ditz after all. Uneven as well as in two other eps Charles did pull rank on lower ranking army guys. Why not here also? Why did he not order Rizzo to start jogging five miles a day and do 300 jumping jacks and 75 pushups a day as well? The actor playing Charles (Stiers) is very much to blame for this idiotic and uneven ditzy behavior of his character. He had clout as an actor on the show. He should have went to the writer of this ep and said "I will never play my character as a completely idiotic pushover. My character has much rank on this individual antagonizing and bullying him for extra money. Write this episode a little differently please or I will not do it!". Gone with the wind indeed were the show's early days when CO Henry Blake could get into three explosions and survive it all perfectly well. This show was now in supposedly credible territory by season 10. Though it looked anachronistic especially with Margaret's hair.

PS A couple of mere lines thrown in and it would have all made sense and Charles would have looked sensible and even. They could have had BJ suggest to Charles that the latter pull rank on Rizzo. Charles could have said he did not want to disrupt the function of the motor pool thus the order of the 4077th itself by making Rizzo do a ton of exercise every day.
