I first caught some eps on TV in 1998, and thought what a clever show - the dialogue and the atmosphere was very unique compared to... anything I saw up to that point - but i never decided to seek the show out.
Then in 2008 I watched Firefly, and I was hooked on that one - and it became my #1 TV-show ever. After watching it (and immediately after that, Serenity of course) I remembered that Buffy was also created by Joss... and I saw some episodes from that already and it was indeed good. So I got all 7 seasons and binge-watched it in 2009. After that, in 2014-15 I rewatched Buffy with my gf, but that time in parallel we watched Angel too. And I was just dumbfounded about that stupid decision to cancel it - I think S5 of Angel was the best... but I digress.
So when and why did you first watch Buffy?

Lol yeah, it's awesome- I think I first heard of the show when I was about 7, because people in my class were saying it was their favourite show- I have to say, I wouldn't let 7 year olds watch it

I didn't discover it until the very end of Season 3, so I missed most of the Buffy/Angel stuff initially and thus never really got onboard the Buffy/Angel train. I went back and watched the earlier episodes later (I now own the full series box set), but Season 4 was the first season I watched live in its entirety. Buffy is still one of my favorite series and one of the few I go back and watch again on a fairly regular basis.
It's kind of weird how my tastes for the seasons have varied over time. Upon first viewing, I didn't care for Seasons 6 and 7. Now Season 6 is one of my favorites, and Season 7 has really grown on me. I guess the darker tone of Season 6 appeals to me more as I've gotten older. That season had so many layers, themes, and complex character development.

I was there for the beginning. Those of you who caught it late man y'all missed Buffymania. When folks found out Angel was a vampire, man that was huge. The Whole Bangel romance. Kendra the black slayer. Can y'all just imagine if social media was happen back then? I even had the YM magazine David & Sarah were on the cover of and some girl in my class stole it. Years later I'm still pissed about it.
I was still mourning over kindred the Embrace at the time so when I heard about a new vampire show i was happy. When folks heard Buffy was going to be a tv show, we was like didn't that movie suck & flop? Glad Joss got a second chance.

That's as maybe, but would you let a 3 year old watch Buffy? Plus, I don't think even when I was 8, and watched an episode for the first time, my parents thought it was suitable, and they reluctantly allowed me to watch the last series, when I was 9/10

I don't know if I would say no since my parents kinda let me watch anything back then. I was watching R rated movies at 3 especially horror movies. Fright Night, Nightmare on Elm street, Return of the Living Dead just to name a few. I was 12 when Buffy aired. I was kinda mature for my age.
The environment we lived in kind of made it hard for my parents to shelter from adult stuff since it was all around us.
