I choose movies and miniseries with themes that mirror my current problems or situation. I know that after I watch a particularly sad or distressing film or miniseries, I feel thankful for my own life and my “smaller” problems in comparison. Also, watching something phenomenal by 'the Master of Suspense' releases cortisol in my brain, followed by dopamine, which produces feelings of pleasure. I must confess one of the major reasons I enjoy classics is how everything is slowed down, I find it stressreleasing. In short, cinema therapy has been a powerful catalyst for healing and growth for me. If I watch a film, I like to let it sit on my mind depending how heavy it hits me. It's more about quality than quantity for me. Watched to me means start to finish. No skipping scenes, not picking it up five minutes in, no multiple screens up not paying attention with it playing in the background. And if I watch an hour of a movie and have to pause and come back the next day I’ll log it for the day I finish it. I don’t mind watching a movie in two or more parts.
